Remedies for Improving Gender Balance: How to Make Equal Pay, Career Progression and Alternative Work Patterns work for Women and Men
This free seminar will provide you with guidance on making real change in your workplace on the issues of:
▪ Limiting bias in equal pay
▪ Career progression for women
▪ Flexibility as the new normal for all modern employees
You know the headlines: the continuing inequality in the gender pay gap in the legal sector, the lack of women at partnership level and the pace of change in the industry which means flexibility must be the new normal - rather than a favour to working mothers. However if you know the facts, figures and strategies for addressing these you can beat the odds!
Using the Law Society of Scotland's detailed research over the last ten years, involving more than 3000 solicitors, and drawing on the expertise of Dr Suzanne Doyle-Morris, author of Beyond the Boys Club and Founder of Edinburgh-based InclusIQ Institute, we unpick modern working life in the legal sector and how to achieve gender balance within it.
This seminar is for both employers and employees. For employers we will look at strategies around:
▪ Retaining talent from under-represented groups
▪ Improving productivity and
▪ Boosting client appeal
For employees, we will look at how you can empower yourself:
▪ Around pay, progression and patterns of work and help achieve the career outcomes you want.
By the end of this session you will be able to:
▪ Describe key statistical trends in the profession in relation to pay, progression and patterns of work
▪ Discuss case-studies of how these trends impact individuals
▪ Identify ways to have constructive conversions about equal pay
▪ Examine different patterns of work, to determine appropriate employment structures within a firm and to assist staff to make better personal choices
▪ Understand the benefits and challenges of technology for creating different work patterns and for team management
