Mr Newlands is also author of the Virgin Money Maker, the personal finance guide published by Virgin Books, and has written for FT Wealth, The Banker, Investment Adviser, Credit, Euromoney, EuroWeek, CNN and The Guardian. Rita Raagas De Ramos

Rita Raagas De Ramos is the Managing Editor at Ignites Asia, a Financial Times publication for and about the asset management industry in Asia. Ms De Ramos has been responsible for Ignites Asia since its launch in September 2010. She has been covering the asset management industry in Asia from Hong Kong since 2000. Before launching Ignites Asia, she was Managing Editor at AsianInvestor in Hong Kong. Prior to that, she was the Asia-Pacific funds reporter at Dow Jones Newswires in Hong Kong. Her more than 20 years of experience as a journalist also includes being a bureau chief at United Press International and an investigative reporter at BusinessWorld in Manila. She has a BS in Economics from the University of the Philippines.
   
Henny Sender

Henny Sender joined the Financial Times in 2007. She was previously the Wall Street Journal's Senior Special Writer for the Money & Investing section and covered private equity and hedge funds. Before joining the Journal, Ms Sender worked in
Hong Kong for nearly 10 years and covered regional finance for the Wall Street Journal Asia and the Far Eastern Economic Review. Prior to that, she was in Tokyo for five years for Institutional Investor. Ms Sender was part of a team at the Journal that won a Loeb award for coverage of the meltdown of Amaranth, a hedge fund. Her work on the overseas Chinese received a citation from the Overseas Press Club and she was a finalist for the National Magazine Awards. Her book on India, The Kashmiri Pandits, was published by Oxford University Press. Ms Sender holds an MS from the Columbia University School of Journalism. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Laura Cha

The Honourable Mrs Laura M. Cha is a member of the Executive Council of the Government of Hong Kong and
Chairman of the Government’s Financial Services Development Council. Mrs Cha is Non-Executive Deputy Chairman of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, the Asia Pacific subsidiary of HSBC Holdings plc, of which she is a Non-Executive Director. She is also an Independent Non-Executive Director of China Telecom Corporation Ltd. In 2001, Mrs Cha was appointed by the Chinese Government as Vice Chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), and served in such a capacity until 2004. She was the first person outside Mainland China to join the Central Government at the vice-ministerial rank. Prior to her post at the CSRC, Mrs Cha was Deputy Chairman of the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong where she worked from 1991 to 2000. Mrs Cha’s public service currently also includes being a Hong Kong Delegate to the 12th National People’s Congress of China, Vice Chairman of the International Advisory Council of the CSRC, and a Member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on the Global Financial System. She was Chairman of the University Grants Committee in Hong Kong from 2007 to 2011 and Chairman of the Hong Kong ICAC Advisory Committee on Corruption from 2007 to 2012. Mrs Cha obtained a BA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a JD from Santa Clara University Law School. She practiced law in the 1980s in San Francisco and Hong Kong., and is a former member of the Committee of 100 in the US.

   
Mark McCombe
Chairman, Asia Pacific
BlackRock

Mark McCombe is BlackRock's Chairman, Asia Pacific.  Based in Hong Kong, he is responsible for all business activity in the region, which includes Greater China,
Japan, Australia, Singapore, Korea and India. Mr McCombe has had an international career in finance spanning more than 20 years. Before joining BlackRock, he served as Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Hong Kong. He was also a Non-Executive Director of Hang Seng Bank Ltd and Chairman of HSBC Global Asset Management (HK) Ltd. Prior to that, he was based in London where he was Chief Executive of HSBC Global Asset Management. Mr McCombe has served on a number of finance industry bodies during his career. He was a member of the Risk Management Committee of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd, a member of the Banking Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, and a committee member of the Hong Kong Association of Banks. Most recently, he was appointed to be a council member of the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC), an advisory body established by the HKSAR. Mr McCombe earned an MA from Aberdeen University and attended Wharton Business School. He was recognised in the Queen's New Year Honours List in 2006 with an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire).

   
Mark Burgess
Managing Director and President
Australian Government Future Fund

Mark Burgess is Managing Director and President of the Australian Government’s Future Fund, and began his role in July 2011. He was previously Chief Executive Officer of Treasury Group, an ASX-listed company that invests in, and supports the management of, small to medium-sized asset management companies.

Prior to that, Mr Burgess was Executive Vice Chairman and CEO, Europe and Middle East, at Credit Suisse Asset Management London, Global Head/CIO of Equities at American Express Asset Management International London, and CIO of Global Asset Management at Colonial First State Investments, Melbourne and London.

 
   
Mark Machin

CPPIB Asia Inc (Canada Pension Plan Investment Board)

Mark Machin joined the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) in March 2012 and is responsible for leading the organisation in 
Asia. Prior to joining CPPIB, Mr Machin had a 20-year career at Goldman Sachs, where he was most recently Vice Chairman of Asia ex-Japan, based in Beijing. He has been based in Asia since 1994 where, among other roles, he ran the Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs in Asia ex-Japan for six years. Previously, he also ran Goldman Sachs’ Equity Capital Markets and Financing businesses in Asia. Mr Machin was a Member of Goldman Sachs’ Asia Management Committee and the Firmwide Capital Committee. He holds a BA from Oriel CollegeOxford, and a BM BChir from Downing College,Cambridge.
 
   
Joseph Bae
Managing Partner

Joseph Bae joined KKR in 1996 and is the Managing Partner of KKR Asia. He also serves as a member of KKR's Asian Private Equity Investment Committee, Asian Portfolio Management Committee, China Growth Fund Investment Committee, and Risk Management Committee. Mr Bae has played a significant role in KKR’s investments in Oriental Brewery, Intelligence, BIS Cleanaway, Borden, Elmers Inc, MMI, Unisteel, PanAmSat, PRIMEDIA, Seven Media Group, Shoppers Drug Mart, Visant, World Color Press, and Yellow Pages Group. He is currently on the boards of directors of Oriental Brewery and Intelligence. Prior to joining KKR, Mr Bae worked for Goldman, Sachs & Co in the Principal Investment group, where he was involved in a broad range of merchant banking transactions. Mr Bae is actively involved in a number of non-profit organisations, such as Asia Art Archives and Yaddo, and is a member of the Investment Committee of Phillips Academy. He holds a BA magna cum laude from
Harvard College.


Michael Chae
Senior Managing Director and Head of International Private Equity

Michael S. Chae
 is a Senior Managing Director at Blackstone and Head of International Private Equity. He has also served as Head of Private Equity for Asia Pacific since December 2010.  Based in Hong Kong, Mr Chae also oversees private equity investments in the media and telecom sectors globally. In addition to his private equity responsibilities, he oversees the firm’s limited partner marketing personnel in Asia Pacific and coordinates firm-wide relationships with key limited partners in the region. Since joining Blackstone in 1997, Mr Chae has led or been involved in Blackstone’s investments in Nielsen, Michaels Stores, The Weather Channel Companies, Hilton Hotels, Centennial Communications, Crowley Digital (Salmon PCS), Extended Stay America, iPCS, PaeTec Communications and Universo Online, in acquisitions by American Axle & Manufacturing, and in the reorganisation of Transtar. Before joining Blackstone, Mr Chae worked as an Associate at the Carlyle Group, LP and prior to that with Dillon, Read & Co. He currently serves on the boards of Hilton Worldwide and Nielsen, and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Lawrenceville School and Chairman of its Investment Committee. Mr Chae graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College, and received an MPhil in International Relations from Cambridge University and a JD from Yale Law School, where he was Managing Editor of the law review.



Michael Baldinger

Michael Baldinger
 is RobecoSAM’s CEO. Before being appointed CEO, he was Head of Global Clients & Marketing at RobecoSAM, and was a member of RobecoSAM’s Executive Committee. Prior to joining RobecoSAM, he was Head of Distribution in the Americas for the Credit Suisse Asset Management division in New York. Previously, Mr Baldinger worked at Bear, Stearns & Co Inc, where he was responsible for large institutional clients and brand development in Switzerland. He began his career at Credit Suisse First Boston in Zurich, where he was responsible for foreign equities trading.
 


Weijian Shan
Group Chairman and CEO
PAG

Weijian Shan is Chairman and CEO of PAG, an alternative asset management company with about $9 billion in capital under management spread across three strategies including Private Equity Buyout, Absolute Return and Real Estate Investments. Prior to PAG, Mr Shan spent 12 years at TPG, as Senior Partner of TPG and Co-Managing Partner of TPG Asia (known as Newbridge Capital before 2007). He led a number of landmark transactions for TPG/Newbridge in
Asia, including the acquisition and eventual exit of controlling interests in Korea First Bank and Shenzhen Development Bank. Prior to TPG, Mr Shan was a Managing Director of JP Morgan, where he served as China Chief Representative for five years. Before that, he was a Professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania for six years. His other former employers include the World Bank and Graham & James law firm in San Francisco. Mr Shan received a PhD from UC Berkeley, along with other graduate degrees from US universities. He studied and taught at Beijing University of International Business and Economics.



Kungsheng Fan
President
CIC International (Hong Kong)

Kungsheng Fan has been President of CIC International (Hong Kong) since November 2011 and a voting member of the CIC Investment Committee since 2009. Prior to his current position, Dr Fan was from 2010 a Managing Director and Head of the Special Investments Department at China Investment Corporation (CIC), overseeing direct investments in key strategic sectors such as oil and gas, metals and mining, power utilities and infrastructure, and agriculture-related businesses. The Department also engaged in various co-investment opportunities and investments in private equity funds. From 2009 to 2010, Dr Fan was Head of Public Market Investment at CIC, with overall responsibility for trading and investments in public debt, public equities (except for proprietary equity trading), and commodity-related products, and also for most of the firm’s cash management activities. From 2008 to 2009, he was responsible for rates-related products and liquidity management. Before joining CIC in 2008, Dr Fan held senior positions at global investment banks in New York, including Lehman Brothers, JP Morgan, ABN Amro and Dresdner Kleinwort. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Science and Technology of China, and a PhD in Mathematics from Columbia University in New York.

   
Eloy Lindeijer
Chief Investment Management

Eloy Lindeijer joined PGGM in 2011 as Chief Investment Management and member of the Executive Committee. PGGM serves 2.5 million Dutch pension fund members and has €140 billion in assets under management. In 2012, Mr Lindeijer participated in the Enhanced Disclosure Task Force (EDTF), a collaborative effort of preparers and users of financial reports to enhance risk disclosures by large international banks. Mr Lindeijer started his career in 1988 at De Nederlandsche Bank (the Dutch Central Bank), in the area of banking supervision. He served in various roles at the Central Bank, most recently as Director of the Financial Markets division. For many years, he was closely involved in the work of the European Central Bank and the market committees of the Bank for International Settlements. Mr Lindeijer studied Business Administration at Nyenrode University and International Relations at John Hopkins University Bologna Center.

 
   
Au King Lun

Au King Lun is the CEO of BOCHK Asset Management Ltd. Previously he was with Financial Risk Management, HSBC and GMO in Hong Kong as well as Baring in 
London. He was the Chairman of the Hong Kong Securities Institute from 2006 to 2008 and the Hong Kong Investment Funds Association in 2004-2005. In 2008, he was awarded the Medal of Honour by the HKSAR Government for his valuable contributions to the securities and asset management industry. In January 2013, he was named CEO of the Year in Asia Asset Management’s2012 Best of the Best Awards.


Timothy Dattels

Timothy D. Dattels is a Senior Partner of TPG Capital LP based in
San Francisco with a focus on Asian investing. Prior to joining TPG, Mr Dattels served as a Partner and Managing Director of Goldman Sachs, where he was Head of Investment Banking for all Asian countries outside of Japan from 1996 to 2000 and advised several of Asia’s leading entrepreneurs and governments. He also served on Goldman Sachs’ Management Committee in Asia. Currently Mr Dattels is a Director of Blackberry as well as Shangri-La Asia. He is also a trustee of the San Francisco Ballet and SF Jazz. He holds a BA (Honours) from the University of Western Ontario, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

   
Naomi Denning
Managing Director, Investment Services, Asia Pacific

Naomi Denning is Towers Watson’s Head of Investment for Asia-Pacific. She has extensive experience working with clients throughout 
Asia on investment matters. Prior to moving to Hong Kong, Ms Denning spent five years working as an Asset Consultant for Mercer and one year working on investment management projects with CSFB and County Natwest fund management organisations in Australia. In May 2009, she was recognised as one of the Top 25 most influential people in asset management in Asia by Asian Investor magazine. Ms Denning is a member of the FTSE Asia Pacific Regional Committee (since 2000) and the Hang Seng Index Advisory Committee (since 2002). Her professional qualifications and affiliations include Associate Member of the UK Society of Investment Professionals, and Licensed Responsible Officer, registered with the Securities and Futures Commission for Type 4 regulated activity (Advising on Securities) inHong Kong. 
   
Peter Ferket

Peter Ferket, Executive Vice President, has been Chief Investment Officer Equities at Robeco since July 2010. Previously, Mr Ferket was Co-Head of the Quantitative Equity team and from May 2009, Portfolio Co-Manager for the Rolinco fund. He has also been Coordinator of the Alpha Group in the Equity department, and Head of Quantitative Strategies, and has shared responsibility for Robeco's Enhanced Indexing capability. Prior to joining Robeco in 1997, Mr Serket was employed by Hollandse Signaalapparaten as Researcher, Radar Systems. He started his career in the investment industry in 1997. Mr Serket holds a PhD in Scientific Computing as well as a Master's degree in Applied Mathematics (cum laude) from Eindhoven University of Technology.

   
Enoch Fung
Head, Financial Stability Surveillance & Market Development
Hong Kong Monetary Authority

Enoch Fung is Head of Financial Stability Surveillance & Market Development in the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA)’s Monetary Management Department.
On the financial stability surveillance side, Mr Fung is responsible for market monitoring and macro-prudential surveillance work related to strengthening the HKMA’s oversight of global financial issues. On the market development side, he is in charge of outreach efforts to promote and enhance Hong Kong's competitiveness as an international asset management centre. Mr Fung joined the HKMA in 2011. Before that, he was a senior economist at Goldman Sachs based in Hong Kong and Singapore, responsible for macroeconomic research on the Asia-Pacific region.



Alan Harden
CEO, Asia Pacific
BNY Mellon Investment Management

Alan Harden is CEO of Asia-Pacific for BNY Mellon Investment Management. Based in 
Hong Kong, he is responsible for all aspects of BNY Mellon Investment Management’s development in Asia-Pacific. Mr Harden is a member of BNY Mellon Investment Management’s executive committee. He reports to Curtis Arledge, Vice Chairman of BNY Mellon and CEO of BNY Mellon’s Investment Management division, which includes the asset management and wealth management businesses. Mr Harden is also a member of BNY Mellon’s Asia-Pacific Executive Committee, which comprises the heads of each of BNY Mellon’s businesses in the region, and of BNY Mellon’s Group Operating Committee. Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Mr Harden was CEO of the Asia-Pacific business of ING Investment Management Ltd, comprising 1,200 staff across 10 countries, with $85 billion in assets under management. His previous experience includes serving as CEO of Alliance Trust PLC and as head of Citigroup Asset Management’s Asia-Pacific operations. He has been a non-executive board member of the Court of St Andrews University, a trustee of the Al Maktoum Institute of Aberdeen University (he remains an honorary fellow), and a non-executive trustee of the Scottish Community Charity Foundation. He is an Honorary Professor of the School of Finance and Accounting at Dundee University.
   
Kevin Hardy
Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific Index Equity Team

Kevin Hardy is Managing Director and Head of BlackRock's Index Equity Group in Asia Pacific. He is responsible for the portfolio management and strategy teams for the institutional and iShares index equity product range. He is also a member of the BlackRock Asia Pacific Executive Committee. Mr Hardy has had an international career in fund management dating back to 1993 and has worked in Hong Kong,
Chicago and London. Before joining BlackRock he spent nine years in various leadership roles at Northern Trust including four years as the Head of Asset Management in Asia Pacific and Country Head for Hong Kong, two years leading international sales, and three years leading global transition management. Mr Hardy had previously spent a combined 10 years in equity index fund management in London at State Street Global Advisors and Legal and General Investment Management. Mr Hardy earned a BSc, with honours, in Business Studies from the City University Business School.

   
Alexa Lam
Deputy CEO
Securities and Futures Commission, Hong Kong

Alexa Lam, JP is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), and SFC’s Executive Director, Investment Products, International & China. Her role covers the regulation of the Hong Kong retail investment products market, SFC’s policies on international engagements, and market development in Mainland
China and Hong Kong. Ms Lam promotes actively financial co-operation between the Mainland and Hong Kong, working closely with Mainland regulators and government authorities on new capital market reform policies and rules. She is one of the principal architects of the development of Hong Kong’s offshore RMB business and RMB investment products. Major initiatives led by Ms Lam include initiating a new Products Handbook, including Hong Kong’s first Unlisted Structured Investment Products Code; encouraging product innovation, related to exchange-traded funds, structured funds, real estate investment trusts and RMB-denominated funds; promoting Hong Kong as an offshore RMB centre and advocating the RMB Qualified Foreign Institutional Investors (RQFII) programme; and engaging Mainland authorities on mutual recognition of funds between Hong Kong and the Mainland. Ms Lam plays a significant role in international regulatory initiatives. She co-chairs, with the Director of Banking Supervision and Regulation of the US Federal Reserve Board, the Working Group on Margin Requirements of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and the International Organization of Securities Commissions. Qualified as a lawyer in Hong Kong, New York and the UK, Ms Lam had 20 years of experience in corporate and commercial law practice in Hong Kong, Chicago and New York prior to joining the SFC.


Graham Mason
Chief Executive
Eastspring Investments

Graham Mason is Chief Executive of Eastspring Investments, the asset management business of Prudential Corporation Asia, part of Prudential plc. He is responsible for overseeing and driving growth across Eastspring Investments’ 11 markets across Asia. This includes joint venture businesses with major partners in China, India and Hong Kong. In addition, Mr Mason has recently overseen the expansion of Eastpring Investments into the US, tapping into the increased demand for Asia investment expertise by the world’s largest institutional market. He oversees the management of about US$90.5 billion in assets under management (as at 30 September 2012) on behalf of retail and institutional investors. Mr Mason is an industry veteran with a long and distinguished track record in international investment management. He has over 25 years of asset management experience, 20 of which have been with Prudential plc in numerous markets. He was previously Chief Executive of Prudential Portfolio Managers (South Africa), part of M&G, and was directly managing portfolios immediately prior to taking up his role as head of Prudential’s Asia asset management business in January 2010. Mr Mason also serves as a member of Prudential Corporation Asia’s Board of Directors.
   
Anthony Michael
Head of Fixed Income, Asia Pacific
Aberdeen Asset Management

Anthony Michael is the Head of Fixed Income - Asia Pacific desk at Aberdeen Asset Management, responsible for the management and investment performance of
Aberdeen's Asia Pacific fixed income and capital market products. Mr Michael joined Aberdeen in 2007 following the acquisition of Deutsche Asset Management's Fixed Income and Equity businesses that year. He held the position of Director/Senior Portfolio Manager with Deutsche in Sydney for five years, responsible for the development and implementation of fixed income and foreign exchange strategies. He was also a member of the global strategy group, the global insurance group and the tactical asset allocation committee. Previously, Mr Michael worked in similar roles with the Zurich Scudder Group, Perpetual Funds Management Australia and the ING Group. He has a BEcon and an MEc in Economics from Macquarie University, Australia, an MComm in Applied Finance from the University of New South Wales and a Graduate Diploma in Securities Studies from the Securities Institute of Australia.



Ng Yong Ngee

Tahan Capital Management

Ng Yong Ngee is a Founding Partner and CEO of Tahan Capital Management. He has 21 years of trading, investing and management experience. Prior to Tahan Capital Management, where he is ultimately responsible for capital allocation, portfolio construction and risk management, he spent 16 years at UBS where he was latterly Head of the Emerging Markets Asia fixed income business. He was a member of the APAC Executive Committee, responsible for capital commitment, risk management and all operational and control matters. He also directly managed proprietary trading risk and led a large team of traders. Mr Ng graduated from
Nanyang Technological University, Singapore with a Bachelor of Business (honours) degree, and has a Master’s in Applied Finance from Macquarie University in Sydney. He currently sits on the board of directors of Seatown Holdings, and is a member of the investment committee for Wah Hin and National Council for Social Services, Singapore.



Konrad Sippel
Executive Director and Head of Business Development

Konrad Sippel is Executive Director and Head of Global Business Development at the global index provider STOXX Ltd. He is responsible for the development of innovative new index concepts across all asset classes, as well as the index business of the existing indices of STOXX Ltd, Deutsche Börse AG and SIX Swiss Exchange AG. Mr Sippel has spent well over 10 years in the index business, primarily in index development at Deutsche Börse and STOXX. During his career, he has been involved in the creation and design of thousands of indices and innovative index methodologies. Mr Sippel graduated in Mathematics from 
Queen Mary College in London, and also holds an MBA from Duke UniversityUS.
   
Yichen Zhang
CEO
CITIC Capital

Yichen Zhang is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CITIC Capital. He joined CITIC Group in 2000 as an Executive Director of CITIC Pacific and President of CITIC Pacific Communications, before founding CITIC Capital in 2002. Prior to CITIC Group, he was a Managing Director at Merrill Lynch responsible for Debt Capital Market activities for the Greater China region. Mr Zhang started his career in investment banking, joining Greenwich Capital Markets in 1987 and becoming Bank of Tokyo's Head of Proprietary Trading in
New York in the early 1990s. He is a member of the Eleventh and Twelfth National Committees of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). He is a founding member and Vice Chairman of Beijing Private Equity Association and Tianjin Private Equity Association, and an Honorary Chairman of Hua Jing Society. Mr Zhang is the former Chairman of China Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (CVCA) and is currently an Executive Committee member of its Board of Governors. He is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.



Xiaofeng Zhong
CEO, North Asia
Amundi Hong Kong

Xiaofeng Zhong joined Amundi Hong Kong Ltd in November 2011 as Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Sales and Marketing, and was appointed Chief Executive Officer, North Asia in September 2012. He is responsible for promoting Amundi Group’s expertise to institutional clients and third-party distributors in North Asia (mainly Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea) as well as the management of Asian Equity and Asian Balanced expertise for all clients of the Amundi Group. Prior to joining Amundi, Mr Zhong worked at Groupe Crédit Agricole from 1996, holding various positions in France and Greater China mainly within the investment banking arm. His most recent role prior to joining Amundi was Managing Director of CA-CIB Beijing branch. Mr Zhong has a PhD in Political Studies from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, France, and an MA (French Language & Literature) from Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, China
