Michael Nervick, CEO, AFN, LLC, Chairman of the TIA Fraud Task Force

Mike began his logistics career as a carrier sales representative for American Backhaulers in 1996.  He co-founded AFN in 2003 and has grown AFN into one of the top 30 full service third party logistics providers.  Mike has built great relationships with many of the best carriers in the nation over the years as a pioneer of the concept of treating carriers like clients.  He oversees the entire business as a hands-on leader and is well known at AFN for his “sharpening the axe” philosophy of continuous improvement. He also spearheads several of AFN’s charitable service projects and is actively involved in the business community through memberships in The Economic Club of Chicago, the Transportation Intermediaries Association (where he chairs a task force on cargo theft) and other organizations.  He earned his BA at the University of Wisconsin and attended the Chicago Management Institute at The Booth School of Business.




Christopher McLoughlin, Cargo Risk Manager, C.H. Robinson (Cargo Theft)

Christopher McLoughlin is the Cargo Risk Manager for C.H. Robinson based in Eden Prairie, MN.  In his current role Chris is responsible for developing, implementing and managing strategic programs focused on risk prevention attributable to various cargo.  Cargo of specific focus includes high value, hazardous materials/dangerous good, and other security sensitive materials. 

Mr. McLoughlin brings over 19 years of logistics industry experience.  His career has included various sales and operational roles, with the last 10 years focused on cargo claims legal liability, marine insurance, regulatory compliance, risk management consulting and vendor relationship management.  In addition to his work at CH Robinson, he has been appointed to the Research Advisory Council of the American Transportation Research Institute.

Mark Boyer, Director of Operations, Con-way Multimodal Inc (Financial Theft)

Mark Boyer is Director of Operations for Con-way Multimodal Inc, the Brokerage division of Con-way Inc. In this position, Mark is responsible for the four operating offices of Con-way Multimodal as well as Carrier compliance and relations, Agency programs, contracts and legal affairs and Claims. During his 35 years of transportation experience, Mark has experience in Intermodal, Drayage, Logistics and over the road operations.

 

Mark is a member of the Transportation Intermediaries Association, IANA and University of Toledo Alumni Association, Mark is a member of the TIA Fraud Task Force and works with the TIA in setting up Transportation Law Seminars. When not working, Mark enjoys golf, reading, travel, and spending time with his family.



Kari Dobrovolny, Chief Operating Officer, Pioneer Transfer, LLC (Indentity Theft)

Kari is Chief Operating Officer for Pioneer Transfer, LLC out of Sioux City, Iowa. Kari started Pioneer with her dad, Bob Beck, in 1988 and has worked for Pioneer ever since in every capacity imaginable.

Pioneer Transfer has been a member of TBCA/TIA since 1989 and Kari currently serves on the Education Committee. She earned the CTB designation through TIA in 2010.




James Lee, Vice President, Legal Affairs, Choptank Transport, Inc. (Fraud Prevention)

James Lee is Vice President, Legal Affairs for Choptank Transport, Inc., a leading Third Party Logistics provider specializing in truckload and less-than-truckload transportation of general freight, as well as specializing in transporting perishable and on-time sensitive commodities.  Prior to joining Choptank, James was Vice President, Legal Affairs for Cargo-Master, Inc.   With over 30 years’ experience in both produce and transportation, James is also proficient in PACA (Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act) Law.  

 

James is a member of the Transportation & Logistics Council, Inc., Atlanta Produce Dealers Association, University of South Alabama Alumni Association, Produce Marketing Association, and participates regularly with the TIA, as well as various other associations.   When not working, James enjoys traveling, sports, and spending time with his family. 



 

Dianna Whitby, Claims Manager, H&M Bay, Inc. (Post-Theft Action)

Dianna Whitby has been involved in transportation since 1980 when she began her career as a file clerk at Preston Trucking. Preston had a history of promoting from within and training people for different jobs in the transportation industry. By 1989, Dianna was promoted to Cargo Investigator Trainee. In 1996, Dianna left Preston to become Cargo Claims Manager at H&M Bay.

Since joining H&M, Dianna’s duties have expanded to include managing the Cargo Claims team, overseeing the Carrier Compliance Department and Cargo Security. In her “spare time”, Dianna is the “after-hours emergency” number. In early 2003, after 5 thefts in 3 weeks, Dianna helped to develop the cargo security plan for H&M Bay. Many of the original guidelines are used today as a means of eliminating carrier theft. H&M has been using On Asset GPS devises, monitored by LoJack, since 2011 on targeted high value loads.

Dianna has been a member of Transportation Intermediaries since 2006. She has most recently served on the Fraud Task Force as the Post Theft Subcommittee Chair. She is also a member of the National Truck and Heavy Equipment Claims Council. In 1994, Dianna passed the Certified Claims Professional examination and was the first member of transportation to be Seafood HACCP certified.
