Dr. Skiba, also known as Dr. Fraud ®, is an international expert in financial crime, cybercrime, and professional development (academic, public, and private sector) and is referred to as one of the top crime fighters in the world. He worked for two corporations for 25 years in special investigations and management and now owns his own international company focusing on consulting, training, and speaking on financial crime, cybercrime and professional development.

 

He has worked on hundreds of projects across the globe, including Malaysia, Argentina, Singapore, Mexico, Germany, USA, and the Nordics He has performed at over 500 public speaking events including keynoting, emceeing, moderating, and hosting. He has also been a university professor for 15 years and is currently Department Chair of Criminal Justice at Colorado State University Global. He holds an MBA and a PhD with a financial crime focus and governments, corporations, and colleges from around the world regularly call upon him to consult, train, and assist with financial crime, cybercrime, and professional development topics and strategies.

He also founded and manages Dr. Fraud Training Group, which offers fully online classes in financial crime. He is sought after as a media contributor that can be seen in many outlets including NBC, ABC, London Telegraph, and SiriusXM radio. He is an instructor for the U.S. ATF and a member of the Academic Council of the United Nations System. He is an accomplished author and recently published a book entitled “The Psychology of Fraud” and the host of DFTV-Dr Fraud TV, a show dedicated to investigating scams and fraud around the globe.

Chris Maietta is a Trial Attorney in the New York Office of the United States Justice Department’s Antitrust Division.  Chris has been employed with the Antitrust Division since 2016, and he has investigated various types of criminal antitrust cases affecting various industries in jurisdictions throughout the United States.  Before joining the Antitrust Division, Chris worked as a Trial Attorney for more than a decade in the Criminal Section of the United States Department of Justice’s Tax Division.  

While at the Tax Division, Chris investigated and prosecuted various types of financial crimes including tax evasion, conspiracy to defraud the government, filing false tax returns, aggravated identity theft, structuring of currency transactions, failing to pay employment taxes, submitting false claims to the government, and cases involving stock fraud and multi-level marketing schemes.

Mark Mills is a special agent (SA) with the United States Postal Service, Office of Inspector General, Office of Investigations, assigned to the Contract Fraud Investigations Division (CFID), as the Subject Matter Expert (SME).

As a special agent with the CFID, SA Mills is responsible for conducting independent criminal and civil procurement fraud and antitrust investigations that affect Postal programs and operations. As the SME, SA Mills provides guidance and advice to other procurement fraud agents, and assists CFID management with strategic planning opportunities. SA Mills has over 26 years in law enforcement including with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Office of Inspector General, the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command, Major Procurement Fraud Unit, and the Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard Investigative Service. SA Mills is also a Certified Fraud Examiner and a Certified Economic Crimes Forensic Examiner. 

 
Jessica Tobias
Ethics Director and Compliance Investigator
Ohio State University

Jessica Tobias is the Ethics Director and Compliance Investigator for the Office of University Compliance and Integrity at The Ohio State University. She is an attorney and compliance professional experienced in investigations and conflicts of interest administration. Prior to joining Ohio State, she worked for the Ohio State Bar Association, where she assisted in the investigation of attorney and judicial misconduct for prosecution through the Ohio Supreme Court.  She served as Committee and Section Manager there and worked as staff counsel to the Joint Task Force to Review the Administration of Ohio’s Death Penalty.

Ms. Tobias is a graduate of The Ohio State University and received her J.D. from Capital University Law School. She has taught Regulatory and Compliance Law at Capital University Law School and The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.

 
Pamela Van Dort
Director of Grant Oversight Strategy, Office of the Inspector General
US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Office of the Inspector

Pamela Van Dort is the Director of Grant Oversight Strategy in the Office of the Chief Strategy Officer at HUD OIG. In this role, she works closely with Audits, Investigations, and Evaluations as well as other stakeholders to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of HUD OIG’s grant oversight work. She collaborates with HUD OIG leadership and staff on a broad range of issues that impact HUD OIG’s grant oversight work, including planning and strategy, outreach, and training. She regularly presents to the federal grantee community and other government agencies on best practices, red flags, and proactive investigations.

Prior to joining HUD OIG, Pamela served as a Senior Investigative Attorney at the National Science Foundation Office of Inspector General where she worked collaboratively with special agents, prosecutors, investigative scientists, and forensic auditors to investigate allegations of civil, criminal and administrative fraud, waste, and abuse related to NSF and other federal grant programs. Pamela has also spent time in private practice focused on complex business litigation.  She received her Juris Doctor degree from The George Washington University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hope College in Michigan. She is a Certified Fraud Examiner.

 

 
Leonard W. Vona CPA, CFE

Mr. Vona lectures nationally and internationally on fraud risk assessments, fraud investigation, fraud prevention and detection, and fraud schemes perpetrated on companies.  He regularly speaks at audit conferences and has developed the Fraud Training Curriculum for the MIS Training Institute, an internationally recognized audit training organization.  Mr. Vona has provided more than 1,000 days of fraud training to organizations around the world.  He has been on the faculty of the National Association of Fraud Examiners and previously on the faculty of Lally School of Management at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  He has written the training course on Auditors Responsibility for Detecting Fraud – SAS99 used by CPA Societies across the country. His international training experience includes five continents and training through interpreters in the Spanish, Portuguese and Russian language.

Leonard W. Vona is the CEO of Fraud Auditing. He is a forensic accountant with more than 38 years of diversified auditing and forensic accounting experience, including a distinguished 18-year private industry career.  His firm advises clients in areas of litigation support, financial investigations, fraud detection and fraud prevention.

Mr. Vona is the author of three books published by Wiley, Fraud Risk Assessment: Building a Fraud Audit Program and The Fraud Audit: Responding to the Risk of Fraud in Core Business Systems, Fraud Data Analytics Methodology: The Fraud Scenario Approach to Uncovering Fraud.

Mr. Vona has successfully conducted more than 100 financial investigations and fraud auditing engagements for some of the largest high profile corporations in the United States.  The net result of his efforts has saved clients millions of dollars through recovery or defense strategies.  His financial investigation experience includes embezzlement, business disputes, asset theft, bribery & corruption, malpractice, and disbursement schemes.  Mr. Vona’s trial experience is extensive, including appearances in federal and state courts.  He is qualified as an expert witness, as a CPA and a CFE, and is cited in West Law for the successful use of circumstantial evidence. 

Mr. Vona graduated from Siena College with honors, receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.  Mr. Vona is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the National Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.  He was the 1994 President of the N.Y. Capital Chapter of the Association of Government Accountants and the founding President of the Albany Chapter of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Angie Wilson is a Senior Auditor for the Department of Internal Audit at The Ohio State University. She is an experienced internal auditor for financial, operational and compliance audits and has experience in internal investigations. Prior to joining the Department of Internal Audit, she worked for the Comprehensive Cancer Center at The Ohio State University in the Grants and Contracts Office, where she managed financial compliance of sponsored research awards.

She is a graduate of The Ohio State University and received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration-Finance.
