National Summit on Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment |
the dti, as the custodians of the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Policy, must continuously monitor and evaluate the progress and sustainability of true and meaningful transformation. In February 2013 the Codes of Good Practice for B-BBEE celebrated its sixth anniversary.
Throughout the past six years, much progress has been recorded since the initiation stages of the transformation. the dti managed to put together decisive instructional mechanisms that are responsible for overall effective monitoring of the implementation of B-BBEE. The work of the Presidential Advisory Council recommended for the review and refinement of the B-BBEE Act and the Codes of Good Practice, which are the major milestones to be unveiled during the upcoming National BEE Summit. Since the gazetting of the B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice in 2007, the dti has embarked on a vigorous marketing and communication strategy that will communicate B-BBEE throughout all provinces.
In the process, the dti has engaged a number of stakeholders and it has become apparent that there is a need for Government to create platforms for discussions, debates and solutions that will give meaning to the overall transformation agenda in the economy. The implementation of the B-BBEE policy requires a need to re-assess this progress on a regular basis to ensure that stakeholders, practitioners and other role players are making good progress in ensuring that meaningful transformation is being achieved across all sectors of the economy.
The staging of this first-ever Government-led B-BBEE Summit will provide such a platform to bring together interested role players to assess such progress and determine the impact of transformation in both the public and private sectors.
