Jukes and Mohan Program
This 3 day program (outlined in full below) is included within the Leading a Digital School Conference and will provide a very attractive choice for many delegates.
Three (3) workshops (Leadershift: Renewing Schools for Modern Times; Disruptive Innovation in Education; and Creating Significant Learning Environments) presented by Ian Jukes and Nicky Mohan have been developed in partnership with Lamar University (USA.) Participants can choose to attend purely for professional development to enhance their own practice; or they can utilize attendance at this PD to begin the process of completing the course requirements for a Masters of Education. This model, which is a perfect fit for busy educators, has been carefully designed so that it seamlessly integrates into your daily practice.
You can attend 1, 2 or 3 days of the Jukes and Mohan Program.
In addition to the 3 workshops presented by Ian and Nicky, delegates who select the Jukes and Mohan program will also attend the 3 Team Keynote Addresses of the Leading Digital School Conference and choose 3 Spotlight Sessions.
Workshop Descriptions
DAY ONE: LeaderShift: Renewing Schools for Modern Times (3 sessions)
This workshop is about how to make the shift from being an educational manager to being an educational leader; and how to rethink traditional assumptions about leadership in support of teaching, learning, and assessment in the modern world. Explore current leadership theories and practices for leading change in organizational systems. Professional leaders will learn how to address the resistance to change that occurs when launching innovative learning initiatives in today’s challenging educational environments. Participants will be provided with access to an extensive digital library of resources specifically aligned to the LeaderShift Masterclass. Developed in partnership with Lamar University (USA,) you can choose to attend purely as professional development to enhance your personal practice; or you can utilize this PD to begin the process of completing a Masters of Education. Your attendance will contribute toward the course requirement.
DAY TWO: Disruptive Innovation in Education (3 sessions)
In today’s digital world, we are witnessing the evolution of an incredibly turbulent new age. It’s the Age of Disruption—an age where every part of society is experiencing a complete upheaval as the result of the pervasive nature of disruptive change. To thrive, our schools, like our businesses, communities, and families, must continually adapt to the changing conditions. By embracing disruptive innovations as opportunities rather than challenges, educators will learn how to proactively use those changes as catalysts to enhance their organization’s learning environments. This Masterclass examines the changing nature of our world; identifies the essential modern skills not being addressed by our current educational system; and specifically identifies how we can effectively engage learners so that they can perform exceptionally well on mandated assessments, while simultaneously learning the critical new basics needed to excel in both school and life beyond school. Participants will be provided with access to an extensive digital library of resources specifically aligned to the Disruptive Innovation Masterclass. Developed in partnership with Lamar University (USA,) you can choose to attend purely as professional development to enhance your personal practice; or you can utilize this PD to begin the process of completing a Masters of Education. Your attendance will contribute toward the course requirement.
DAY THREE: Creating Significant Learning Environments (2 sessions)
Explore the theories of constructivist epistemology used to create student-centred learning environments. This Masterclass outlines a series of essential process skills that will empower your students for personal and professional success. In 1993, Ian Jukes introduced educators to the concept of the Fluencies. The Fluencies are the mental process skills needed by each of us to live, work, and learn in an ever-changing world. These Fluencies include Solution Fluency, Collaboration Fluency, Information Fluency, Media Fluency, Creativity Fluency, and Global Digital Citizenship. More than twenty years on, the constant forces of change and globalization have made it necessary to move beyond the Fluencies to the Modern Learning skills essential to ensuring that all of our students can thrive in modern times. Participants will be provided with access to an extensive digital library of resources specifically aligned to the Creating Significant Learning Environments Masterclass. Developed in partnership with Lamar University (USA,) you can choose to attend purely as professional development to enhance your personal practice; or you can utilize this PD to begin the process of completing a Masters of Education. Your attendance will contribute toward the course requirement.
