| William Callaghan, MD, MPH
William
Callaghan, MD, MPH is the Chief of the Maternal and Infant Health Branch in the
Division of Reproductive Health at the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention. In this position he provides scientific leadership to a group
dedicated to research and public health surveillance in the areas of maternal
morbidity and mortality, infant morbidity and mortality, preterm delivery, and
pregnancy complications, particularly as they relate to subsequent risks of
chronic disease. During his tenure at CDC, he has been an author on numerous
peer-reviewed papers, presented his work in the field of maternal and infant
health at national meetings, and provided technical assistance to states
engaged in the identification and review of maternal deaths. Dr. Callaghan
earned BS and MS degrees in biology from Youngstown State University in
Youngstown, Ohio. He received his medical degree from the Ohio State University
College of Medicine in 1981, completed a residency in OB/GYN at Akron City
Hospital, Akron, Ohio in 1985, and practiced general OB/GYN in Western North
Carolina for 14 years in rural and urban settings. Between 1999 and 2001 he
took a second residency, Preventive Medicine, at the University of South
Carolina and earned his MPH degree with a concentration in epidemiology and
biostatistics from that institution in 2000. He is certified by the American
Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. |
| Elliott Main, MD
Dr. Elliott Main is the medical director of the California
Maternal Quality Care Collaborative (CMQCC). He has led multiple state and
national quality improvement projects and is the Chair of the California
Pregnancy-Associated Mortality Review Committee. Dr. Main also served for 14
years as chair of the OB/GYN department at California Pacific Medical Center in
San Francisco. He is clinical professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at both
the University of California, San Francisco and Stanford University.
Dr. Main been actively involved in and chaired multiple
national committees on maternity care quality and has co-lead a number of
national quality initiatives with the American College of Obstetricians (ACOG),
the Centers for Disease and Prevention, and the Maternal and Child Health
Bureau. In 2013, Dr. Main received the ACOG Distinguished Service Award for his
work in quality improvement. |
| Kimberly Sherman, MPH
Kimberly Sherman serves as the Maternal and Women’s Health Lead for HRSA’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau’s Division of Healthy Start & Perinatal Services. Ms. Sherman earned her Master’s Degree in Public Policy from American University, and Masters in Public Health from the University of Louisville. Ms. Sherman has a strong interest in health promotion and infant mortality prevention, and currently assists with Division efforts to support women’s preventive health services. |
