Data Protection Beginner Level

This is the first of two one-day courses on data protection and gives a general introduction to data protection legislation together with a more detailed discussion of some of the more common practical issues which may arise: subject access requests, the role of the Information Commissioner and enforcement activities, agreements with data processors, the conditions for the processing of personal data and fair processing notices.

 Learning outcomes:

· To understand the key terminology, principles, obligations and rights specified in the Data Protection Act 1998

· To be aware of the rules relating to Data Subject Access Requests and practical issues in their application

· To understand the role of the Information Commissioner’s Office, the enforcement options available to it and steps which may be taken to mitigate enforcement

· To apply the rules permitting the processing of personal data and construct a privacy notice

· To assess and adapt a data processor agreement to meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998

· To understand the legal and practical issues relating to the transfer of personal data outside of the European Economic Area
