Maree is the founding CEO of the Open Data Institute Queensland (ODI Queensland). Globally it is the ODI’s mission to connect, equip and inspire people around the world to innovate with data. ODI Queensland, now in its second year, is already recognised not just within Queensland, but nationally and internationally, as a leader in bringing business, industry, academia and government together to utilise government data as a strategic resource. Maree’s career began in the legal profession, as partner of a tier one national law firm. 10 years later, Maree co-founded a software start-up which achieved great success and which was the recipient of multiple awards for excellence in innovation. Maree has held a number of industry representative roles including past Chair of the Technology Council of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) and past Chair of the Queensland branch of the Australian Information Industry Association Queensland (AIIA). Both roles have enabled many opportunities to promote the economic value and benefits of smart adoption of technology. Maree is a regular contributor to various advisory boards. He and his team drive innovation and awareness of the rising threats in cyberspace while building and maintaining technical relationships within government and the private sector. With the recent surge of Board level interest in Cybersecurity, Rich also presents to Corporate Boards and works closely with CIOs and CISOs to improve organizational security posture. Rich has spent the past 15 years in the IT industry focused on educating IT professionals and driving thought leadership in the Cybersecurity space. He has spoken at numerous management and technical events throughout the Asia Pacific region including CIO Forums in Sydney, Chennai and Bangalore as well as Auscert, Gov 2.0, SecureSydney, and JuiceIT. Prior to FireEye, Rich managed the ANZ SE team at Websense after starting at their San Diego headquarters as the Technical Training Manager for Global Education. His responsibilities included developing curriculum and training programs across all product lines for internal sales engineers, partners and customers. Victor was born and raised in the Ryde area. He went to school at Marist Brothers Eastwood before studying law. He was a partner in a commercial law firm, where he represented clients in a number of landmark cases. Victor was elected as Member for Ryde at a by-election in October 2008. He was re-elected at the 2011 state election. In April 2011 he was sworn in as Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Minister for Citizenship and Communities. His portfolio responsibilities included multicultural affairs, veterans’ affairs, volunteering and youth. Following the Liberals & Nationals Government’s re-election in March 2015, Victor was sworn in as the state’s first Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation. Victor is responsible for the Office of Fair Trading, the State Insurance Regulatory Authority, Safework NSW and DFSI’s Services & Digital Innovation Division. Since taking on the portfolio in April 2015, Victor has overseen a number of reforms including the establishment of a NSW Data Analytics Centre as well as changes to strata title laws, real estate underquoting laws and the use of sunset clauses in off-the-plan property contracts. Victor is currently leading the Social Innovation Council, a partnership between NSW Government agencies and NGO leaders, established to drive sectoral reform in human service delivery. Prior to his parliamentary career, Victor cherished the opportunity to travel to many places around the world and looks back fondly on his experiences in India, Central and South America, Europe, the US and Asia. He is also a passionate supporter of West Tigers rugby league team.

Fiona Dowsley has over a decade of experience in evidence base building and improving access to information to support informed decision-making, policy-development and broader public value. Currently Acting Director of Strategic Planning at the Department of Justice & Regulation, she oversees corporate planning, consulting and data functions. She is also Victoria’s founding Chief Statistician of the Crime Statistics Agency, establishing the agency in 2014 and producing official crime data and research for the state. Fiona is also a Director of the Sentencing Advisory Council. Prior to moving to the Victorian Public Service, Fiona spent 10 years at the ABS in roles including: leading the redevelopment of the world-leading Measures of Australia’s Progress national indicators, Director of the National Centre for Crime and Justice Statistics and Director of State and Territory Statistical Services for Victoria.

Coan is a Manager with the Western Australian Department of Treasury. He has an Honours Degree in Accounting and Finance and Masters in Public Administration. Passionate about improving public services through design, community engagement and data analysis; he currently manages Treasury’s transport policy and budgeting team. Previously Coan has worked on projects ranging from efficiency reviews, commercial policy and major infrastructure delivery projects including WA’s desalination plants, Gateway WA and now the Forrestfield Airport Link. He has previously been a member of the Steering Committee for the Productivity Commission’s Report on Government Services, the State’s Statistical Policy Committee and the Australian Statistical Advisory Committee. Working with other governments, he has advised on methods to improve statistical capability and data linkage studies. In 2012, he received the Young Public Sector Leader of the Year awards for both WA and Australia in recognition of his achievements. More recently he has helped deliver WA’s Open Data Policy and started a community of practice for service design relying on behavioural economics. Alex’s task is to define and deliver an ICT strategy reflecting the highly diverse nature of the department and its agencies. Alex was previously based in Perth as CIO of Synergy, Western Australia’s largest generator and retailer of electricity and gas, and won the 2013 CIO of the Year award for Western Australia. Elizabeth Tydd was appointed NSW Information Commissioner and head of the Information and Privacy Commission on 23 December 2013. Ms Tydd’s role is to promote public awareness and understanding of the right to access government information in NSW, and provide information, support, advice, assistance and training to agencies and the general public. Ms Tydd has held a number of board and committee appointments including Trustee of the Responsible Gambling Fund. At the NSW Office of Fair Trading, Ms Tydd occupied the position of Assistant Commissioner of the Compliance and Legal Group. In this role, she was responsible for regulating significant industries including real estate, the motor industry, and general consumer transactions. She has also played a key role in the development of Australian Consumer Law and the implementation of a national framework for compliance activities. Ms Tydd is an accredited mediator who holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws from the University of Technology, Sydney. Ms Tydd is the second Information Commissioner for NSW, succeeding the inaugural Information Commissioner, Deirdre O’Donnell who served until July 2013. Kathrina Lo was Acting Information Commissioner from July 2013 until Ms Tydd’s commencement in December 2013.

Prior to this he was Assistant Secretary, Legal Services Branch, of the Department of Health and Ageing in Canberra where he led the development of the regulatory framework to support national e-health initiatives and the national registration and accreditation scheme for the health professions. Before that, he headed the legal branch of the Victorian Department of Human Services where he was closely involved in the development of key social policy-based legislative initiatives including the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005.

Greg has held numerous senior roles in the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) over his 30 years career. His breadth of experience includes tax technical, learning and development, risk and intelligence as well as managing continuous improvement and change projects. Greg became head of the ATO’s Serious Non-Compliance business line in 2010; he directed our Tax Crime strategy and chaired the high-profile multi-agency Project Wickenby Task Force. He also participated in a number of international forums including the OECD Task Force on Tax Crimes and Other Crimes. Recently, Greg led a corporate review of the ATO’s risk, intelligence, analytics, data management and technology capabilities. The key outcome of this review was the establishment of the Smarter Data Program which is currently embedding a whole-of-ATO approach across these key capabilities. One of the ATO’s six strategic programs, Smarter Data seeks to use data in a smarter way to improve decisions, services and compliance. Smarter Data is a key enabling platform for the ATO’s broader reinvention and will play a critical role supporting future corporate strategies and outcomes. Greg has a keen interest in client-centric, contemporary and agile approaches and how they are delivered across both public and private sectors.

Michelle Wilson is currently the General Manager Strategic Information Division within the Department of Human Services. Michelle has held this role since early 2015 and has enjoyed the challenge of managing the provision of high quality analytical advice on service delivery, and the sharing and supply of data to both other DHS areas and more broadly to the APS and Australian State Governments. DHS is currently heavily involved with the Public Data Management Agenda, announced by the Prime Minister in December 2015. Michelle is the DHS Data Champion. Michelle has held a number of previous roles within DHS including managing the Aged Care Programme and governance for Service Delivery Reform. Previously Michelle has worked in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and in the Department of Social Services (previously FAHSIA).
