Oklahoma City-based Bowlsey features vocalist Clarissa “Cid” Castillo, vocalist/organist/guitarist Taylor “Shraz” Mercier, organist/guitarist Rev. Juz10 Hogan and drummer Donald Eisenberg.  With a mellow folk-infused hip-hop style built on the sounds of vintage organs, synthesizers and guitars bathed in soulful vocals and smooth raps, the group released the album decorous in October of 2014.

FIFTH STREET STRUTTERS

The University of Central Oklahoma’s Fifth Street Strutters are one of six jazz combos that perform as part of the UCO Jazz Program. The Strutters carry on the Dixieland Jazz tradition started more than 30 years ago by Dr. Kent Kidwell and two-time National Collegiate Dixieland champions The Civilized Tribe.  The Strutters perform traditional jazz favorites made famous by Fats Waller, Jelly Roll Morton, Jack Teagarden, Louis Armstrong and many others.   Students audition each semester for placement in the bands and rehearse on a regular basis, perfecting their craft. Since their inception three years ago, the Strutters have performed across the state of Oklahoma and will be traveling to New Orleans for the Crescent City Jazz Festival in March of 2015.  The group is directed by UCO School of Music instructor Jeff Kidwell.  He has served as a featured clinician throughout the United States and Canada.  Kidwell has performed with musicians including Pete Fountain, Bradford Marsalis, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations and many more.

GOATWATER EXPRESSWAY

Tony Westlund is a ten-year veteran of the Oklahoma City art scene. Preforming music under the moniker ‘Goatwater Expressway,’ Westlund demonstrates his hand-built instruments in a one-man-band setting. While most of his instruments are reminiscent of “guitars,”, they are composed of found objects, salvaged wood, and hardware from dusty pawnshop guitars. His sound is influenced by folk rhythms and melodies from many cultures, but has a strong feel with feedback-driven delta blues and Cambodian folk melodies.
