Inclusiveness
Childcare at the conference:
We recognize that caregivers face significant barriers to participating in academic meetings, and so we are trying to make this conference as accessible as we can for attendees caring for infants or young children.
Babysitter:
Unfortunately we were unsuccessful in our efforts to arrange for onsite childcare at the meeting venue, but please see below for some reputed companies through which you can hire a temporary babysitter in the local area:Daycare Centers:
Most childcare centers do not offer drop-in or temporary care. However, if your employer offers the Bright Horizons Back-up Care Advantage Program, you will be able to find and utilize a child care facility in the local area through this program.
Registration fee waiver:
To help ameliorate the costs of attending meetings, caregivers (whether their children come with them or are stay at home) are eligible to apply for a registration fee waiver. Click here for more information, and to apply.
Caregiver social network:
- We have an editable google doc where you can enter your contact info so that you may be able to find other attendees to share a babysitter with, arrange playdates, swap childcare, or share resources. https://tinyurl.com/yd76cmfx
- To coordinate on twitter use the hashtag #CES2018Childcare
- We will have a closed facebook page that you can join to virtually connect with other caregivers at the conference. Search for “Caregivers Connect at CES 2018”
Conference babies:
We are a baby-wearing friendly conference, and we welcome you to bring your infant or child with you to the conference halls, seminar rooms, and poster areas. Caregivers of your child other than you (such as a babysitter or spouse) also have full access to the conference center.
Feeding:
You are free to feed your baby anywhere in the conference space and during talks. If you would like a quiet or private space there is a separate lactation room set aside for this purpose. You are welcome to feed your child from the conference food provisions too.
Restrooms
Unfortunately the hotel does not have all-gender restrooms, or family restrooms, and there are no diaper changing facilities in the restrooms. Please do feel free to use the restroom of your choice. For diaper changing facilities we are looking to arrange an alternate space.
Wheelchair Access
The hotel is compliant with the American Disabilities Act. All areas where conference activities take place, as well as the conference banquet location are wheelchair accessible.
Inclusivity Award
In an effort to promote a diverse attendance at the CES conference, we are awarding a limited number of conference registration fee waivers for individuals facing undue barriers to participating in academic meetings including attendees from countries with limited funding for research, carers of infants or young children, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from groups underrepresented in academia. Funding decisions will be made with the goal of increasing the diversity of attendees at the conference. If funds are remaining we will also consider underfunded individuals who have not received sufficient alternate sources of funding to attend the conference.
To apply, fill in the form below by Sep 13. Award decisions will be communicated by Sep 19.
If your decision to attend is contingent upon receiving the award, please wait until you receive your award notification before registering. The early bird registration rates will be available until Sep 21.
If you have registered already you can still apply for this award. If awarded, your registration fee will be reimbursed.
