Biographies

 
Rob Beamish
Executive Director
CEPA Foundation

Rob Beamish joined CEPA Foundation in January 2017 as its Executive Director. Rob has fifteen years of experience with TransCanada in a range of areas including field operations, gas control, IT and facilities planning; his most recent position in 2015 was Director of Supply Chain Services where he led multiple teams across North American as well as Supply Chain’s transformation initiative and continuous improvement program. The remainder of his 30+ years of experience was spent in the innovation sector helping Alberta’s early stage technology companies grow their businesses. In this area, he has held positions of VP Operations at Calgary Technologies Inc., founding CEO at Tecterra, Director at Climate Change Central and Executive Director, Clinexus. Rob has also founded two consulting firms that provided innovation management consulting to small businesses, governments and crown corporations in the domains of energy, clean tech, health technology and information technology. Rob has sat on the boards of the Ability Society, InfoTech AB (Banff Venture Forum), Calgary Angel Network and Nipika Mountain Resorts. Rob is a Professional Engineer with a civil engineering degree and an MBA from Queen's University as well as a Masters of Environmental Design from the University of Calgary.

 
Molly Beckel
Marketing Representative - Eastern Markets
TC Energy

Molly Beckel is a Marketing Representative with TC Energy’s Toronto-based Natural Gas Pipelines Commercial team. Molly facilitates customer transportation services to ensure that gas from the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB) and Eastern Canadian supply points reaches markets. She has been with TC Energy for 6 years and began her career in Mexico Projects as a Project Development EIT. From Mexico Projects, she moved to Facilities Integrity and Reliability Engineering where she designed mechanical engineering solutions to ensure that Canadian compression facilities met system availability needs. Molly graduated from the University of Waterloo with a degree in Management Engineering. In 2018, Molly won a Young Women in Energy Award, acknowledging women who are going above and beyond to “change the face of energy”. Last year, Molly was recognized by the Daily Oil Bulletin (JWN) as a Class of 2019 Rising Star. She is the President and CEO of the Young Pipeliners Association of Canada (YPAC). As part of her YPAC role, Molly holds an ex-oficio role on the CEPA Foundation Board.

 
Jim Campbell
VP Business Environment
CEPA

With over 25 years of experience working in politics, government relations and community affairs, Jim brings in-depth understanding of external relations to his leadership role as Vice President, Business Environment at the Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA). 

At CEPA, Jim leads a team responsible for government relations, policy, regulatory and communications to provide a strong and unified voice for the transmission pipeline industry in Canada. 

Prior to joining CEPA, Jim was Vice President, Government and Community Affairs at Cenovus, where he led a diverse team of people responsible for working with community partners, Indigenous groups, the Canadian military, and governments throughout Canada and the U.S. 

Jim has intricate knowledge of government and how it works, developed over his years of experience in government and public affairs. His previous roles include three years as Executive Director of the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta, heading up corporate government relations at TELUS and then at BP Canada, and advising clients at GPC Government Policy Consultants. 

Jim has a commerce degree from the University of Alberta and an MBA from the University of Calgary.

 
Mike Cleland
Senior Fellow
University of Ottawa Positive Energy

Mr. Cleland is a private consultant with extensive experience in energy and environment policy. He is a past Chair of the Board of Directors at the Canadian Energy Research Institute and chair of the Board of Directors of QUEST (Quality Urban Energy Systems of Tomorrow). In 2015, Mr. Cleland was named Canadian Energy Person of the Year by the Energy Council of Canada. He is formerly President and CEO of the Canadian Gas Association, Senior Vice President, Government Affairs for the Canadian Electricity Association, Assistant Deputy Minister, Energy Sector and Director General of the Energy Policy Branch at Natural Resources Canada. From 1987 to January 1990, he was Assistant Director, Resource Policy Division in the Department of Finance. Before joining the federal government, Mr. Cleland led a management training project for public servants in Zimbabwe and lectured in business-government relations at Dalhousie University and worked at the Nova Scotia Departments of Development and Municipal Affairs. Mr. Cleland was educated at the University of British Columbia (BA in political science 1972) and Queens (MPL urban and regional planning 1974).

 
Kym Fawcett
Director, Health, Safety, Environment & Quality, Natural Gas, Storage & Liquids
ATCO Pipelines & Liquids Global Business Unit

Kym is the Director: Health, Safety, Environment & Quality at ATCO Natural Gas. She leads a multi-disciplinary team that oversees activities pertaining to health, safety, environment, technical compliance, management systems, corporate risk, emergency response damage prevention and quality. She also oversees HSE for ATCO Electric, ATCO Corporate and Common Groups, ATCO Energy, ATCO Energy Solutions, and Ashcor.

Kym has over 29 years' experience in environment, sustainability, health and safety, regulatory compliance/permitting, indigenous relations and stakeholder engagement. In 1991, she began her career as an environmental consultant with Stantec.  She moved to Golder Associates in 1993 and became an Associate in 2001.  During this time, she focused on environmental impact assessments, environmental management, and regulatory permitting for a variety of natural resource sectors. She transitioned from consulting to corporate in 2006 and has held previous leadership roles at EnCana and ConocoPhillips.  Most recently (2008 to 2017), Kym was the Senior Manager for Safety & Social Responsibility at Enerplus. 

Kym is a past member of the Board of Directors for NAEM and the Canadian Heavy Oil Association. Currently, she is a member of the Board of Directors for The Educational Partnership Foundation.

 
Chad Gray
Lead Engineer
PipeSak Inc

Chad Gray is currently the lead engineer with PipeSak Inc, leading all product development activities. Prior to PipeSak, Chad worked for five years with TC Energy as a Project Manager with the pipeline integrity group out of Calgary, and as a Project Engineer / Manager with the regional field office in Bolton, ON. Chad has supported numerous pipeline maintenance projects including; inline inspection, facility maintenance, right of way management, and large diameter valve / actuator repairs. In his spare time he enjoys spending his time outdoors!

Andrea Jalbert
Vice-President, Supply Chain
TC Energy

As Vice-President, Supply Chain, Ms. Jalbert is responsible for all supply chain management and procurement needs for TC Energy. She also has responsibility for business support services such as warehousing and inventory, accounts payable, and resource planning and analysis.

Ms. Jalbert has been with TC Energy for more than 20 years and over this time has held various corporate, operations, project and leadership roles which have included responsibility for safety, occupational health and industrial hygiene, emergency management, Indigenous relations, community relations, land and environment. Prior to her current appointment, Ms. Jalbert was Vice-President, Environment, Land and Indigenous Relations.

Ms. Jalbert holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Honours Biology from the University of Waterloo.

Leah Jerhoff is a Human Resources professional with Inter Pipeline Ltd. As the Manager of Benefits, Payroll & Wellbeing, Leah embraces the motto ‘take care of your employees, and your employees will take care of your business’. Leah has built a holistic wellbeing program at Inter Pipeline with a mental health foundation. As a certified trainer of The Working Mind, over the last 18 months Leah has successfully introduced and rolled out this industry leading mental health education program at Inter Pipeline. This initiative is complimented by enhancing the benefits program that fosters a proactive and supportive mental health perspective including Mental Health First Aid Training. Leah is passionate for leading, motivating and empowering people. She is committed to raising awareness and reducing stigma around mental illness and facilitates employees feeling comfortable to reach out and get support to achieve good mental health and overall wellbeing.

 
Tyler Madigan

Tyler Madigan is a proud second generation pipeliner, the Vice President of Mainline Pipelines of Aecon and the Vice President and Managing Director of SA Energy Group. In this role, Tyler has overall responsibility and accountability for operations, engineering, project management, project leadership and project execution for all mainline pipeline contracts. Tyler has over 20 years of pipeline industry experience ranging from field labourer and equipment operator positions, to engineering, project management, operations management and executive leadership. Tyler is a Licensed Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geoscientists of Alberta and the Professional Engineers of Ontario.

 
Paul-Emile McNab
Director, Business Development and Strategic Initiatives
Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business

Paul-Emile re-joined the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business on October 31st, 2016. Prior to that, he was active in the field of Research, Consulting and Business Development for fifteen years. In 2007, he completed his honours degree in History, Political Science and Canadian Studies at the University of Toronto. In 2010, he completed his Masters in Environmental Studies at York University with a focus on Indigenous knowledge and a Major Research Paper titled The Traditional Rights of Ways on the Walpole Island First Nation.

He is a Métis scholar who has been published in numerous books, articles and magazines. He has served as a Member of the Research Advisory Committee with Canadian Energy Research Institute, a Member of the Leadership Advisory Circle for the Indigenous Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship with the City of Toronto and the Chair of the National Advisory Committee with ORIGIN Inc. He is of Métis descent with ancestors attached to Métis Scrip applications and currently resides in Toronto.

Joy Romero
VP - Technology & Innovation
Canadian Natural Resources Limited

Joy Romero, P.Eng, MBA PM, ICD.D, FCAE Vice President Technology & Innovation, Canadian Natural Resources Limited. Joy has worked in steel, iron ore, coal and oil and gas. She joined Canadian Natural in 2001 to develop the Horizon Oil Sands Project. She has served as a School Trustee, Chair of the Governing Council of Athabasca University, and advisor to several NSERC chairs. Joy is currently Chair of the Clean Resource Innovation Network and Vice Chair of the Petroleum Technology Alliance of Canada as well as past Board Chair of Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance. She is a member of the Business Leaders Advisory Council for Athabasca University and the Faculty of Science Dean’s Circle for the University of Calgary. Joy is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineers, an inductee of the Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame and a past member of the Science, Technology & Innovation Council for Canada.

 
Keith Sedlick

Keith Sedlick is a part of the 1Craft Recruiting Shared Services at Kiewit Corporation. As Regional Recruiting Manager for Canada, Keith has the unique job of searching out and working with incredible organizations; that further the goal of increasing the Construction industry’s skilled trades workforce.

Keith works to elevate the Kiewit brand in the Construction industry by forging lasting partnerships with non-profits, Indigenous partners, education partners, government and industry. Keith’s passion for the industry, the jobs we build and the people who build them is reflected in the success of the people entering the Construction workforce through the programs Kiewit engages with.

 
Dr. Andrew Szeto
Director, Campus Mental Health Strategy
University of Calgary

Dr. Andrew Szeto is currently the Director of the Campus Mental Health Strategy at the University of Calgary responsible for guiding the implementation of the 28 recommendations within the University of Calgary Mental Health Strategy. He is also a Principal Investigator at the Mental Health Commission of Canada and an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Calgary. Over the past eight years, Dr. Szeto has focused on the evaluation of workplace mental illness anti-stigma and mental health promotion programs. He currently works with numerous organizations from different sectors across Canada to implement and evaluate these programs. Two of his current successes include the adaptation and development of workplace mental health awareness and mental illness stigma reduction programs called The Working Mind and the The Working Mind for first responders (both of which have been built on the R2MR program from the Department of National Defence). Over the past several years, he worked to develop and pilot The Inquiring Mind, a program tailored for post-secondary students. As well, he has developed a junior high/high school version of The Inquiring Mind. Dr. Szeto also conducts basic research that examines the stigma of mental illness with social psychological methods and theories, including research on labelling, attitudes, and new interventions to reduce stigma. He has published academic articles on various topics related to mental health and the stigma of mental illness.

 
Dr. Dharma Wijewickreme

UBC Pipeline Integrity Institute

Dr. Dharma Wijewickreme is Professor of Civil Engineering and Director of the Pipeline Integrity Institute (PII) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada. He joined UBC in 2001 after serving engineering consulting practice for 11 years, with particular reference to the geotechnical design of pipelines and bridges. 

Wijewickreme’s research focus is on pipeline geotechnical engineering and earthquake liquefaction of soils, and this work has resulted in over 150 publications in these subject areas. Wijewickreme has contributed widely to the understanding of the seismic response of silts, and he pioneered the PII that was established in partnership with the pipeline sector to champion world-leading pipeline engineering practices and innovation through advance education/training. 

He was the President of the Canadian Geotechnical Society for the period 2017-2018. Wijewickreme is Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, and Engineering Institute of Canada. He serves on the editorial boards of the Canadian Geotechnical Journal and ASTM Geotechnical Testing Journal. 

Wijewickreme is a recipient of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering Horst Leipholz Medal for outstanding contributions to Engineering Mechanics and Practice in Canada.
