Covid 19 Rules & Restrictions as of July 8, 2021
For Vaccinated Travelers
As of July 8, the State of Hawaii will eliminate its pre-travel testing/quarantine for those travelers who have been vaccinated in the US.
- Traveler must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in the United States.
- Traveler will need one of the following vaccination records as proof of vaccination:
- A CDC COVID-19 vaccination card
- VAMS (Vaccine Administration Management System) printout or
- DOD Form DD 2766C.
- The documents listed above must reflect first name, last name (which must match the name of the traveler in Safe Travels), date of birth (which must match the date of birth entered in Safe Travels), type of vaccine received, date(s) vaccine was administered, lot number(s) for each of the vaccine doses and healthcare professional/clinic site of who administered your vaccination.
- Create an online account and register with the State of Hawaii’s Safe Travels Hawai‘i Digital Platform at travel.hawaii.gov.
- Complete trip information from the U.S. Mainland or U.S. Territory. Vaccine documents can only be uploaded into the system when it is linked to a trip. Once the vaccine data is verified either by the Department of Health’s Hawai‘i Health Information Exchange (DOH HHIE) system or by airport personnel, it can be used for future trips. You do not have to upload your vaccine document again.
- Complete the on-line health questionnaire in your Safe Travels profile within 24 hours before your trip.
- Bring the original CDC Vaccination Record Card, VAMS printout, VAMS printout with DOH header and endorsement, or DD 2766C with you when you travel to show the screeners.
Non-Vaccinated Travelers
Non-vaccinated travelers are welcome to travel to Hawaii with a pre-test.
- Travelers wishing to use the pre-travel test to bypass quarantine must have a negative result from a test taken from a Trusted Testing and Travel Partner no more than 72 hours BEFORE beginning the final leg of their trip.
- Anyone without a negative test result or U.S. vaccination PRIOR to departure must quarantine upon arrival.
- The state of Hawai‘i will ONLY accept Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) from a certified Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) lab test results from TRUSTED TESTING AND TRAVEL PARTNERS, including any tests verified through the State’s Digital Health Pass partners – CLEAR and Common Pass. - The negative test result must be uploaded onto Safe Travels at travel.hawaii.gov or printed out prior to departure and hard copy in hand when arriving in Hawai‘i.
- Once completed, verified and approved by the state, travelers will receive a QR code via email that they will need to show upon arrival in Maui. This will help expedite the arrival process tremendously. Travelers arriving without the QR Code will be sent to a different line for verification of paper documents which could cause long delays.
When the state reaches a 70% vaccination rate, all restrictions on travel will be lifted. Specific dates will be announced as milestones are reached.
