Caroline Groom (Chair)

Caroline Groom is the Business Improvement Director of learndirect and is responsible for the development of new programmes as part of implementation of new contract wins. She also leads on self-assessment, inspection preparation and the review of organisational processes to meet business requirements and establish best practice. Caroline has over 14 years experience in the field of work-based learning in a variety of operational and support roles she also sits on the Tripartite Group; a partnership representing AoC, ALP and SSCs. As the ALP Skills Champion for the Business Administration sector, its role in tandem with ALP is to ensure there is an effective robust communication channel with all stakeholders within the skills and employability sectors, e.g. awarding Organisations, sector skills councils and funding agencies.



Breda Leyne
Director

Following a career background in the public sector Breda has worked in the FE work-based sector since 2001. She specializes in accreditation of learning and quality assurance of training and in promoting the employability and career options of young people. Breda has worked with several sector skills councils, and public sector bodies facilitating the development of national occupational standards and qualifications for a range of occupations and sectors, both in the UK and Saudi Middle east. Through her long term association with the College of Policing, and its precursor bodies, she facilitated and quality assuring the National Police Training Plan for the Olympics 2012. Together with colleagues at the Strategic Development Network she has recently worked on Higher Apprenticeship development, and supported the development and implementation of Trailblazer Apprenticeship Standards. 



Stella Turner
Head of Qualifications and Delivery
Association of Employment and Learning Providers

Stella is responsible for keeping a ‘watching brief’ on matters related to qualifications and curriculum development. She represents AELP on groups such as the Skills Funding Agency’s Qualifications Approvals and Governance Group and the BIS Vocational Qualifications Forum plus various Awarding Organisation Consultative Committees.
 
Since joining AELP Stella has managed a number of projects, including work related to the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF) Readiness Programme, Functional Skills Support, Unit Delivery Trials, the review of FE Teaching and Training Qualifications and the promotion of Higher Level Skills. More recently she has taken on responsibility for overseeing and managing work allocations within AELP’s delivery team. Stella has always worked in the education and training sector and has over 10 years experience of working for a work based learning provider.
 
As a Senior Training Manager for a large training provider in Bristol, she was responsible for a team of ten, overseeing and contributing to the design and delivery of a range of both government funded and commercial programmes including IT courses, Apprenticeships and NVQs in a variety of occupational areas. Prior to joining AELP Stella worked for the Awarding Body OCR as a Customer Support Manager.

Steph Venn
Qualification Executive
Innovate Awarding

Steph Venn has been working as a Qualification Executive for Innovate Awarding since the beginning of 2015.

Steph has worked successfully in a variety of roles within the Qualifications arena for nearly 20 years and has significant experience of qualification development, maintenance, training provider accreditation and quality management. She has previously worked with a variety of subject matter experts on the development of new qualifications and syllabuses, notably within the areas of Information Security, Green IT and Commercial Awareness. Steph has been responsible for the accreditation and quality management of over 150 training organisations globally and ensuring adherence to regulations.

Currently responsible at Innovate awarding for a substantial portfolio which consists of ICT, Warehousing, Retail, Hospitality, Beauty Therapy, Marketing & Sales and Business Marketing, Steph has also been heavily involved recently with developments at CIMSPA and taken an active role in some of the many trailblazer developments that are ongoing.
