Lionel Barber is the editor of the Financial Times. Since his appointment in November 2005, the FT has been pioneering the concept of the integrated newsroom, where reporters and editors work seamlessly across print and digital formats. During Mr Barber’s tenure, the FT has won numerous global awards for its quality journalism, including three newspaper of the year awards (2008), which recognised the FT’s role “as a 21st century news organisation”. As editor, Mr Barber has interviewed many of the world’s leaders in business and politics including: President Barack Obama, Premier Wen Jiabao of China, President-elect Dmitry Medvedev of Russia, Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and President Jacob Zuma of South Africa. During his career, Mr Barber has received several distinguished awards. In 1998, he was named one of the 101 most influential Europeans by Le Nouvel Observateur and most recently in 2009, he was awarded the St George Society medal of honour for his contribution to journalism in the transatlantic community. |

Dominic Barton is the Global Managing Director of McKinsey & Company. In his 28 years with the firm, Mr Barton has advised clients in a range of industries including banking, consumer goods, high tech and industrial. Prior to his current role, he was based in Shanghai as McKinsey’s Asia chairman from 2004 to 2009 and led the Korea office from 2000 to 2004. Mr Barton is an active participant in international fora including Davos, the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, Les Rencontres Économiques d’Aix-en-Provence, the Asia Business Council and the China Development Forum. He has authored more than 80 articles on the role of business in society, leadership, financial services, Asia, history and the issues and opportunities facing markets worldwide. Mr Barton is a co-author, with Roberto Newell and Greg Wilson, of Dangerous Markets: Managing in Financial Crises (Wiley & Sons, 2002) and China Vignettes: An Inside Look at China (Talisman, 2007). Mr Barton is a member of the Canadian Prime Minister’s Advisory Committee on the Public Service, a trustee of the Brookings Institution, a member of the Singapore Economic Development Board’s International Advisory Council, an advisor to the Asia Development Bank, a member of the Advisory Board for the China Development Bank Capital Group and a board member of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. He has received multiple awards for his business leadership and contributions to the communities in which he has lived and worked – for example, in February 2013 he received the Order of Civil Merit (Peony Medal) from former President Lee of South Korea and in August 2014 he was awarded a Singaporean Public Service Star (Distinguished Friends of Singapore). He is a Rhodes Trustee and an Honorary Fellow at Brasenose College, Oxford. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Tsinghua University, Beijing. |
