AVC 2015 will see the exciting addition of a dispenser education session on Sunday, 12 April. The AVC Dispenser Session will offer practice staff an educational component and will be held in Central Rooms on the ground level of the Convention Centre.

10.45 - 11.15am Specific Cases in Modern Progressives

Special cases may cause some practitioners to rule out prescribing progressive lenses for some patients. Progressive lenses can used fairly universally so long as particular factors are taken into consideration.
This presentation covers: A brief examination of the cost of remakes; Where are we with case management using today's lenses? (base management, position of wear, compensated powers etc.) and if possible in the short time we have, some of the more demanding aspects such as anisometropia; phakic variations; monophthalmia, There is no one particular or correct methodology or way to manage the more challenging cases, so discussion is encouraged.
11.15 - 11.45am Ocular Emergencies - for those on the front line in the optometry practice

This is a presentation aimed a arming the front of practice staff with some appropriate triage skills to deal with the person claiming “that their eye is bleeding so should I come in?” and similar scenarios. In this armour will include appropriate questions to ask and timely management with a goal of successfully dealing with these patients even when your optometrist has a full book and needs to get to golf on time.
