Hisham Zubeidi (Chair)

Hisham served an Apprenticeship as a technician after he left school and spent 10 years in the retail motor industry, he then went on to Found Motor Industry Training “a private training provider” in 1998 after working 5 years as a field Representative for a large National Training Provider.

Motor Industry Training has grown to trains 900 Apprentices each year mainly in the independent sector. Having started the company as a “one man band” Hisham feels he understands all aspects of the training. Hisham was the founder of the Association of training providers in Surrey which encompasses 34 training companies. A great believer in partnership working Hisham is also a founding member of ALPSE the South East Region voice of providers.



Cliff Shaw
Deputy Principal
City of Bristol College

Cliff started at the College in April 2013 and has been a senior leader in further education colleges since 1995.  Prior to this Cliff was a teacher and curriculum director in both FE and HE.  He has been an Ofsted inspector for 12 years.  Cliff has also been the strategic director for an education action zone and has led on regional consortia and centers of vocational excellence. He is also a lead reviewer for Ofqual (formerly QCA) as part of their development, accreditation and scrutiny programmes.

The quality of teaching, learning, assessment, management information, learner services, learner outcomes, workforce development and the student experience are some of Cliff’s current responsibilities.



Lloyd Mason
Engineering Development Manager
Arriva UK

Lloyd Mason is Engineering Development Manager at Arriva UK Bus. An engineer with extensive experience in bus and coach maintenance and of developing the next generation of engineers, his role is to support the strategic learning and development objectives across Arriva in the UK. This involves working with colleagues across the bus and train divisions. Lloyd supports the development of Arriva Bus engineers including apprentices, interns, graduates and technicians. He is also chair of the employer-led apprenticeship trailblazer group responsible for the developing the new apprenticeship standards for the bus and coach and heavy vehicle sectors. Lloyd is an active member of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers, sitting on their Professional Standards Committee, the irtec steering group and the irtec expert working group. His original idea developed into what is now known as the annual IRTE Skills Challenge.

Mike Cox
Operations Manager
Association of Employment & Learning Providers (AELP)

After 13 years in retail purchasing and supply, Mike became an assessor for apprenticeships with TBG Learning in 1999. He soon moved onto various development roles with learndirect, RNID and then LSN where he headed up the bidding and development team, helping design support programmes and research in areas including Train to Gain, Citizenship, Diplomas, Key Skills, Functional Skills and Foundation Learning. He joined AELP in February 2013. Mike is married with 2 children and lives in rural Kent.
