Employer involvement in apprenticeship delivery

Trialled a new approach to engage and work with employers, with the aim of improving the quality of Apprenticeships delivery to employers and learners.

Achieved through a range of activities built around the creation of an employer forum that provided the platform from which to discuss current and future employer skills needs, to ensure that our Apprenticeship offer can continually respond to these. Forum used as a tool from which to target/engage employers and feedback analysis used to contribute to Employer Handbook.

Carried out Apprenticeship staff survey and staff development activities to increase the quality and professional capacity of staff in the delivery of Apprenticeships.

Completed 2 Good Practice Guides – Employer Handbook and Staff Handbook

Stand 14: Norfolk Adult Education

The aims of our project were to work with small employers and apprentices to develop resources for support staff involved in the recruitment to and the delivery of Apprenticeships. Our focus was on Enterprise and Business Skills, delivered in small enterprises, and opportunities for NEET young people who are potential entrepreneurs.

The project aimed to:
  • Engage with small businesses and apprentices to develop a resource toolkit for support staff that ensures effective, responsive, high quality and successful learner and employer journeys
  • Increase take-up of Apprenticeships in Enterprise and Business Skills using the Swarm model to place ownership firmly with small enterprises, overcoming the barriers and creating solutions
  • Develop effective marketing materials to attract potential young NEET learners, small businesses, and support staff selling enterprise apprenticeships to employers and schools
  • Establish a Swarm small employer support network, developing mentors to support both employers and apprentices
  • Improve curriculum development and delivery through innovative use of technology and blended learning – both occupational and Maths and English, particularly relevant in rural Norfolk where distance and poor public transport are barriers to access
  • Focus on the needs of apprentices from vulnerable and excluded groups and communities
Throughout the project our support staff were involved in the testing of resources in real situations.
