Background

The Education & Training Foundation commissioned AELP and its partners (HOLEX, 157 Group, AoC, NIACE and the Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce) to manage a staff development programme designed to increase the quality and professional capacity of individual staff engaged in Apprenticeship delivery.

In the first phase of the programme a range of resources were developed by provider led projects that are now available on the ASSP website. In phase two, that runs through to the autumn, a variety of activities are taking place designed to disseminate the resources and to provide further support particularly in relation to the Apprenticeship reforms and the implications for curriculum design and teaching, learning & assessment.

Further details of these activities, which include a consultancy service, communities of practice and webinars are available on the ASSP website.

Event Overview

The workshop will include opportunities to hear from people directly involved in the trailblazer process and to discuss the transition with colleagues from other providers.

The aim is to support providers to think through the implications and develop their plans to move from a curriculum based on existing Apprenticeship Frameworks to one based on new Standards.

Delegates will be required to:
  1. Prepare for the workshop with pre-reading and some limited data gathering
  2. Following the workshop, produce an action plan for change and transition within their organisation
  3. Participate in a follow-up phone call with one of the workshop facilitators three weeks after the workshop, to discuss the action plan
  4. Attend a practice sharing web seminar eight weeks after the workshop
Who should attend?
Individuals who are accountable for engaging with employers and/ or Apprenticeship curriculum development. This is likely to include Directors, Heads of Apprenticeship/ Work-based learning.

The workshop may not be appropriate for trainers and assessors as it will require an understanding of the organisation’s strategic plans for Apprenticeships.

The content from sections of the workshop and the subsequent podcasts will be designed to allow for dissemination to delivery staff.
