Workshop 2
Trailblazer Workshop - Digital Industries
Facilitated by Andy Palmer and Helen West OBE, Aspire Achieve Advance Limited & e-Skills
The IT sector has seen unprecedented growth in the uptake of Apprenticeships in the last few years as employers have recognised that Apprenticeships offer a real alternative to the Graduate recruitment route. Technology orientated Apprentices are now found in both IT companies and non IT companies that have a reliance in technology. Employers, small & large, have embraced Apprenticeships. |

|
The drive is now to maintain this growth but alongside this to ensure that employer demand is at the heart of Framework design and informing models of training and assessment.
In this workshop we will acknowledge the challenges that the Trailblazer process poses to providers but look at where the unique capabilities of providers that mean that they are vital to the successful delivery of the Trailblazer agenda.
Co-hosted by e-skills UK, who are supporting the Digital Industries Employers in the Trailblazer process, this workshop is an opportunity for providers to directly contribute to the Trailblazer process and ensure that the views of providers and the Employers that they work with shape future developments of Apprenticeship Frameworks.

Workshop 4
Delivering High Quality Apprenticeships: Learning Provider Considerations on Synoptic Assessment
Facilitated by Sharon Frazer, City &
Guilds
|

|
This workshop will look at ‘synoptic assessment’, providing opportunity for delegates to explore proposals for this specific but significant shift in assessment approach.
How will synoptic assessments affect programme design? What technological adaptations will best support their introduction? How will this approach to assessment work in testing the full range of apprenticeship skills? What type of preparation will be needed to ensure implementation contributes to intended improvements in quality?
A handful of proposed changes have dominated discussions in the industry with little time to concentrate on some of these more detailed, but substantial proposals. At City & Guilds we’ve been investigating the various facets of the reform and developing customer-focussed solutions.
Attend this workshop if you’re interested in a forum for:
- Looking at considerations for the implementation of synoptic assessment
- Learning about City & Guilds initiatives to contribute to the smooth introduction of synoptic assessments
- Exploring implications of synoptic assessments for designing and delivering apprenticeship programmes
- Sharing your views on requirements for effective synoptic assessment
