Board Candidates for 2015

Each candidate has provided a personal statement and a self-assessment of their skills, knowledge, and competencies. The personal statement provides candidates the opportunity to summarize their skills, experience, characteristics and strengths that they would bring to the Board, as well as provide a personal rationale for pursuing a position on the Board of Directors. Candidates have been limited to 250 words.

In addition, a competency survey was provided to candidates to allow them to assess their strengths. A strong Amnesty International Board is one that possesses a broad range of competencies ranging from activism to finance to governance. Some competencies are specific to Amnesty International, while others are typical for Board level functioning in any non-profit organization. For each competency, candidates were asked to assess their experience from low to high. The self-assessment included in the candidate's profile only lists those areas where candidates have identified a high level of experience and strength.

Below is the list of competencies that were part of the self-assessment survey sent to candidates. We do not expect candidates to have all of competencies listed below, instead we are looking for a well-rounded team where the majority of these competencies will be present.

Competencies: activism; gender mainstreaming; diversity; leadership experience; team-building and facilitation skills; communications; governance experience; ease with change and complexity; international development; business; financial management skills; planning and evaluation; human resources; legal knowledge; and fundraising.

The personal statements and competencies for each candidate can be found in a linked document along with their video statement. These statements serve as a starting point, and the nominations committee encourages you to ask additional questions of prospective Board members to better understand their vision of Amnesty International and how they can contribute to the Board's role in governing the organization. Please email the Nominations Committee with any questions: nominations@amnesty.ca (Q&A will be posted).
