We’ve listed below some of the most commonly asked questions for you. If there’s something we’ve missed, please email us at learning.opportunities@unitedway.org.
Can I Attend the Bootcamp Even If I Am An Experienced Advocate?

YES! The Bootcamp is open to all attendees of the Advocacy Forum. In the past, experienced advocates who are new to advocacy with United Way or who want a refresher on the basics have attended.

What should I wear?

We suggest business casual dress for the Advocacy Forum on June 18-20. Dress is business for Capitol Hill Day on June 21. We also suggest bringing a jacket or sweater for the learning and general sessions - air conditioning can be strong.

#ProTip for Capitol Hill Day: Wear comfortable shoes. There is a 15-minute walk between the Senate and the House side of the Capitol (you can also take a cab or Uber).

What should I bring?

We will provide any materials you need for the Advocacy Forum when you check in at registration.

For your Hill Day meetings, United Way Worldwide will provide:

  • One-page snapshot of United Way network and policy priorities
  • One-page "leave-behind" on collective issue asks
  • Feedback forms
  • Sample social media posts

Please plan to bring:

  • Business cards
  • Info/story on a local initiative you want to share about
  • Camera or phone to take pictures and videos!

Do I need to schedule my meetings for Capitol Hill Day?

Yes. All attendees must schedule their own meetings with Congress for Capitol Hill Day on June 21. Watch a recording of the Advocacy Forum Sneak Peek webinar to learn how to schedule Hill Day visits, get tips on what to expect, and answers to all your questions.

You may begin scheduling meetings with your House of Representatives members now. Please wait to schedule Senate meetings. A state lead will be designated and asked to schedule Senate meetings. As you confirm your Hill Day meetings, let us know by submitting your meetings here!

What if I need to cancel?

We’re sorry that you won’t be able to join us! Our attendee cancellation policy states that cancellation requests received before May 22, 2018 will be assessed a $100 cancellation fee. After May 22, 2018 the registration fee is non-refundable. Cancellation requests can be made by clicking here to modify your registration.

Can I pay with flexible credits?
Flex credits may be used towards the Advocacy Forum and Capitol Hill Day for the following expenses:
  • Registration fees
  • Some travel costs such as airfare, rental car, or mileage (only one form of travel - rental car, mileage, or airfare - is allowed, with a maximum of $500 per trip)
  • Daily per diem – a combination of the hotel room rate, plus taxes and any meal not included during the program
United Way volunteer leaders may also use flexible credits for the above expenses if a United Way staff person is attending as well.

Please click here to access your United Way flexible credit balance. If you choose to use your flex credits to pay for this event, when you get to the payment screen while registering, choose “Flexible Credits."

More details on UWW's flexible credit policy for both this event and other opportunities can be found on United Way Online. If you have any additional questions about flexible credits, please contact learning.opportunities@unitedway.org.
Flex Credit Travel Reimbursement
If you would like to be reimbursed for your travel expenses from your flexible credit account, you can submit your expenses and they will be processed after the event. Each registrant will receive a digital travel reimbursement form within 5 business days of the program completion. Once this form is sent, it must be completed within 10 business days, after which further reimbursements cannot be processed. You do not need to keep your receipts to fill out this form, though we do encourage you to keep them for your records.
What's the per diem for this event?
The per diem allowed when requesting reimbursement from flexible credits covers hotel and food expenses. For this event, the per diem is $240.
