Welcome to Charleston
Charleston, South Carolina is the oldest city and largest city in the state of South
Carolina. Charleston was founded in 1670.
Initially known as Charles Towne in honor of King Charles II of England.
In 1783, at the end of the Revolutionary War, Charles Towne became
incorporated and its name changed to the current spelling Charleston.
Charleston is a city rich in history that includes its involvement American
Revolution through the Civil Rights Era. Charleston is a melting pot of
unique places, people, and things to see.
