This is the 11th annual meeting for the National Science Foundation (NSF) ADVANCE Program which strives to increase the representation and advancement of women in academic science and engineering careers, thereby contributing to the development of a more diverse scientific workforce. Each year, ADVANCE Grant PIs and their team members gather in Washington, DC to discuss, present, network, and leverage knowledge.
ADVANCE has once again partnered with the Association for Women in Science (AWIS) to expand the meeting and reach out to stakeholder groups. This year, we focus on the on engaging those from community colleges to discuss recent research findings and best practices on gender and diversity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
The goal of the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) ADVANCE program is to increase the representation and advancement of women in academic science and engineering careers, thereby contributing to the development of a more diverse science and engineering workforce. Since 2001, the NSF has invested over $130M to support ADVANCE projects at more than one-hundred institutions of higher education and STEM-related not-for-profit organizations in forty-one states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, including twenty-four EPSCoR jurisdictions.

The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) is the premiere leadership organization advocating the interests of women in science and technology. For over 40 years, AWIS has fought for equity and career advancement for women – from the bench to the boardroom.
