IPWEA NSW 2014 TALKS SERIES - Women in Engineering Networking Evening
The IPWEA NSW 2014 Talks Series is a new initiative to encourage young men and women to consider Civil Engineering and Public Works as a viable, interesting and challenging career path. The aim of this first IPWEA NSW Talks Series is to:
• Increase the profile of Public Works Engineering.
• Encourage young men and women to enter the field of Public Works Engineering.
• Provide a forum for open discussions on topics relevant to our Industry.
This first networking evening is focused on the recruitment of women working in Civil Engineering and Public Works with special guest speaker Dr Mehreen Faruqi.
PRESENTER
Dr Mehreen Faruqi joined the NSW Legislative Council in June 2013. Her portfolios include Environment, Marine Environment and Fisheries, Transport, Healthy Lifestyles, Roads and Ports, Status of Women, Sexuality and Gender Identity, Multiculturalism, Animal Welfare, and Young people. Dr Faruqi has a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, and a Master and PhD in Environmental Engineering from the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
Dr Faruqi has held leadership positions in local government, including Manager of Environment and Services for Mosman Council, Manager of Natural Resources and Catchments for Port Macquarie – Hastings Council, and as the Director of the Institute of Environment Studies (UNSW) and an Associate Professor for Business and Sustainability (AGSM UNSW).
Dr Faruqi has delivered major projects such as stormwater re-use and re-cycling infrastructure, cycle ways, hrydropower generation and rainforest rehabilitation.
In 2013, Mehreen received the UNSW Faculty of Engineering Award for Leadership and was voted No.5 on Daily Life’s list of top 20 women in 2013 who made a difference and inspired Australians. She has also co-authored a book entitled ‘Environmental Decision-making: Exploring complexity and context’.

TIMES: Please register for the talk by 5.45 pm. The talk will commence at 6.00 pm. Canapes will be provided
CAR PARKING: Paid parking is available at Wilson Parking opposite the hotel, however, the venue is within walking distance of Central railway station.
ACCOMMODATION: Overnight accommodation is not provided for Delegates. You will need to organize your own accommodation if required.
