Care NSW State Conference 2014 – Palliative & End of Life Care: Making
History
Call for Abstracts
Palliative Care NSW is hosting its biennial State Conference this year in Sydney from 22 – 24 October. The Scientific Committee warmly invites everyone who either works in or has an interest in palliative care to submit an abstract for consideration.
General Information
Just over 30 years ago the first Annual General Meeting of the Palliative Care Association of NSW was held. With this historical reference point in mind abstracts are invited that focus on what we have learned from the past 30 years about Palliative Care:
How does our past impact on current palliative care practice and thinking
Where are we now in palliative and end of life care practice and provision
How might the palliative and end of life care landscape look in the future.
The conference seeks contributions that explore or inform or challenge around these three palliative and end of life care themes: The Past, the Present and the Future.
Theme examples may include, but are not limited to, the following.
The Past
How does the “Palliative Care Past” impact on the practice, understanding, research agenda or service models of the “Palliative Care Present”?
What values or experiences from the “Past” are most important to remember and retain?
Has the vision and goals of the “Past” been realised?
Is the “Palliative Care Past” now ancient history?
The Present
How is the current Palliative Care landscape different to the past?
Current changes in Palliative and End of Life Care: What is being achieved?
Current Palliative and End of Life Care clinical practice and service provision: What works and what doesn’t?
What key research questions remain unanswered?
The Future
What current trends in disease incidence/disease management inform future palliative and end of life care practice?
What current innovations in clinical practice and service provision will become the new normal?
Will Palliative Care still exist in 2025?
