2014 Convention Wrap Up

Despite the ice storm of the season, Carolinas AGC members gathered from all corners of the Carolinas in Boca Raton, FL for the 93rd annual convention.  CAGC celebrated 16 first timers among 231 registered participants who enjoyed presentations on HealthCare from Claudia Dodgen of Crowder Construction, the economy from AGC’s Chief Economist, Ken Simonson; and a Washington, DC update from Jeff Shoaf.

CAGC was host to the national leaders of AGC and ARTBA, Al Landes, President Elect;  and Doug Black, Chair; who gave addresses on what is transpiring in the construction industry and their views of the challenges and opportunities contractors will have to navigate.  Highway, Utility, and Building Divisions also met and heard updates from Rich Juliano of ARTBA and Scott Berry of AGC.

Members celebrated the recipients of the 2013 Pinnacle Awards and recognized Nathan McLamb as Outstanding Committee Chair.  Presided over by CAGC Chair, Cleve Paul, the 93rd convention was a resounding success.

A highlight of the convention was when keynoter Major Dan Rooney, Founder
of
the Folds of Honor Foundation, immediately saw an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of two young girls whose father was killed in action.  Brought to his attention during a Q&A session by member, Mark  Baucom, Major Rooney seized upon the moment to change their lives and pledged that the Foundation would take care of their education.  It capped off a message to look for the moments in life when opportunity and purpose (synchronicity) appear.  It was a meeting of leaders, go-getters, and VIPs that helped the construction industry in the Carolinas kick-off 2014.
