Steve Estes Partner KPMG LLP Background Steve Estes is a partner with KPMG’s Advisory practice and has over 30 years of experience providing advisory services to energy clients. Steve currently serves as KPMG’s leader for the Internal Audit and Enterprise Risk practice’s Texas Business Unit as well as KPMG’s U.S. Sustainability Governance Lead. Professional and Industry Experience Steve serves as the lead partner for numerous internal audit outsourcing and co-sourcing engagements. His responsibilities include audit plan development, leading operational internal audits, delivering on sustainability projects, addressing technology risks, assisting in Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance, and advising audit committees on corporate governance.
Steve has led multiple Sustainability projects for clients that have focused on the governance, risk and internal control. This experience has also included assessments of the SEC, CSRD, California and other recent proposed climate disclosure guidelines to help clients with their design of a target operating model around sustainability reporting requirements.
Steve has led numerous SOX implementation and compliance projects for domestic and international companies. His responsibilities have included program design, control rationalization, project management, documentation of significant processes, development and execution of test plans, remediation of gaps, facilitation of the evaluation of control deficiencies, and management reporting.
Steve’s other Advisory energy engagements have addressed key operational areas that are of significant risk to companies including capital spending, regulatory compliance, land, safety & environmental, joint ventures, procurement, 3rd parties, site reviews, inventory, technology, cyber, and more. Prior to joining KPMG, Steve worked for Oryx Energy in internal audit and IT roles. Steve also spent five years with Martindale Consultants where he consulted for oil & gas clients on joint venture and revenue audits, international projects, and litigation support work for dispute resolution.
