James Roth
AuditTrends

James Roth, PhD, CIA, CCSA, CRMA, has over three decades of progressive internal audit and teaching experience. After twelve years as a practitioner, Jim formed AuditTrends in 1993. Since then, Jim has focused on best practices in internal audit. His extensive research has led to seven books and seven other major IIA publications, as well as eight AuditTrends seminars and numerous articles and speeches.

Jim is the 2008 recipient of the IIA's Bradford Cadmus memorial Award, which honors "individuals making the greatest contribution to the advancement of the internal audit profession." He is shown below accepting the award from Gerry Cox, IIA Chairman of the Board.

Jim’s 2010 book, Best Practices: Evaluating the Corporate Culture, was one of the first to present proven evaluation tools for assessing elements of culture. Jim's article, "How to Audit Culture" in Internal Auditor magazine was awarded the 2018 John B. Thurston award as "the year's most outstanding feature article."

Jim is one of the most highly rated speakers on internal audit, risk management, internal control, and corporate governance. He has presented papers at 13 IIA International Conferences, as well as regional and national conferences throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

Jim's expertise is not limited to emerging best practices. There is no better developer or presenter of basic audit skills training on the market today. Some student comments:

"James Roth is on the cutting edge of auditing…incredibly
knowledgeable and has excellent presentation skills."

"Your style of presentation and teaching is now the benchmark against which my people
judge other courses. Many thanks also for the seminar. You managed to pack an amazing
amount into a short time, and the audience was the liveliest I have seen at any IIA seminar."

"The training you provided has initiated lots of good dialog
and the whole report writing process is flowing smoother - not only are
skills on the rise, but the common understanding across the group is invaluable.

Every hour of the training added value . . . in fact, the 2 individuals
who missed a couple hours on the 2nd day are already noticing that they
are at a disadvantage in contrast to those whom participated in the
entire session."

"Real world examples, not just theory."

"Great speaker…very helpful."

"Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!"
