The Charitable Irish Society of Halifax
The Charitable Irish Society of Halifax is extremely proud to be a Gold Sponsor for the Halifax Celtic Festival.
The Society’s history goes back to January 17, 1786 when a small group of individuals met at the Golden Ball Inn of Halifax, to draw up the first Articles of the Association known as The Charitable Irish Society of Halifax.
From the very beginning the Society has lived up to the duty to “aid the poor and the distressed” and while the mode of delivering that aid has changed over the years, the call of membership in the Society continues, to all “who are lovers of Charity.”
In an attempt to bring the charity of the Society “in line with contemporary life” the Board later established the Charitable Grants and Cultural Affairs committees. Many worthwhile organizations and projects, such as this Celtic Festival, have been supported through these committees.
