Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Role of Internal Audit in Activating Equity

For many, the last two years were some of the most challenging due to reasons including racial & societal tension, political divisiveness, economic volatility, and the global pandemic. Intentional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (“DEI”) should be top of mind for organizations as the world continues to experience the impact of these circumstances and, in many situations, those challenges are being brought to the workplace. Focusing on DEI is not only the right thing to do, but it can make good sense from a business perspective. According to The Diversity and Inclusion Revolution: Eight Powerful Truths by Juliet Bourke, organizations with inclusive cultures are twice as likely to meet or exceed financial targets, three times as likely to be high-performing, and eight times more likely to achieve better business outcomes.

In this session, Ishita Khirbat and Marin Heiskell will talk about:

  • Definitions of Diversity Equity and Inclusion – establishing equity as an outcome of diversity and inclusion
  • The importance of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the workplace, the profession and the broader community.
  • Ideas for how organizations can empower teams by promoting a culture where every professional can feel valued, respected, and engaged and the role each of you can play in creating a more equitable environment – not only within the workforce, but also in our marketplaces, and in society more broadly
  • Introduction of the Equity Activation Model – including the spheres of influence (workforce, marketplace, and society) and the activators within each
  • The role of internal audit in activating equity – understanding how to challenge the status quo and transform long-held beliefs and behaviors to build a more equitable future
