Tour Options for Monday, March 6, 2023:

Tour # 1 - Adventures in St. Augustine 

This is a self-guided tour through the city of St. Augustine. Stroll through the colonial architecture, do some shopping, and visit the sandy St. Augustine Beach and tranquil Crescent Beach. Its unique scenery and history set this city apart from any other in the country. This old city has a quaint feel but boasts a big appeal. Visitors can see why when they stroll along the brick-lined streets and delight in the city's European flavor, with centuries-old buildings, horse-drawn carriages, hidden courtyards and so much more. St. Augustine has plenty of history to explore, more than 450 years of it!
Cost: Free

Tour # 2 - Afternoon in Amelia Island 

This is a self-guided tour through the town of Amelia Island. Relax on the beach, explore the outdoors, shop downtown, or stroll under the Spanish moss. Make you own choice to go on a laid-back nature tour that becomes the adventure of a lifetime or walk down the 13-miles of uncrowded beaches that simply take your breath away. It's a special feeling that's difficult to put into words, but once you visit Amelia Island, you'll know it well. It's a real thing. It's an island thing. Now is the perfect time to make it your thing.

Tour # 3 - Aquaponic Farms 

Take a visit to Eden Gardens and learn about their growing self-sustaining eco-farm sitting on 120-acres. Their goal is to change the face of hunger and poverty by helping train and feed thousands.  Come see how they are using their two aquaponics greenhouses and citrus orchard to feed the hungry in their work-4-food program. The second stop is Traders Hill farm, a full grown aquaponic operation. Learn about their closed-loop approach to blending aquaculture and hydroponics which allows for maximum plant health, zero waste, and minimal environmental impact.

Tour # 4 - All Things Animals

The first stop is the Jacksonville Zoo where you’ll take a tour through a portion of the Zoo guided by an educator. This is one of only seven zoos in the United States with an animal wellness team, helping provide the very best care for their animals. The next stop is Catty Shack Ranch Wildlife Sanctuary where you’ll learn about how they provide a safe, loving and forever home to endangered big cats and how they educate the public about their plight in the wild and in captivity.

CANCELLED Tour # 5 - A Walk Through Nature 

The first stop is the Jacksonville Arboretum & Botanical Gardens a 120-acre property with an interesting history. All the trails, benches, boardwalks and picnic tables in the Arboretum were built by volunteers from the community. The next stop will be Tree Hill Nature Center where you’ll learn about their one-of-a-kind contact with natural Florida habitats. Their mission promotes environmental stewardship to the community through hands-on educational programs and low-cost access to natural spaces.

Tour # 6 - Alligator Zoo 

Here's your chance to take a trip to the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park. You'll have a guided tour through the zoo with a chance to see an alligator show and explore on your own. Learn about its the history in the late nineteenth century as a small exhibition of Florida reptiles and how it became a quintessential Florida attraction. Now a modern zoo serving the public and the scientific community, this attraction offers educational shows and exhibits, important research, and worldwide conservation efforts.

Tour # 7 - Dolphin Siting Boat Tour and Candy Shop 

Start the tour with a dolphin siting boat cruise by St Johns River Taxi & Tours. Sail east toward Exchange Island where dolphins like to roam and learn a few things about the history of the area. Then, finish the tour at the famous Sweet Pete's Candy Store. Participants will view all the different rooms throughout the building and the candy and chocolate factory.

Tour # 8 - Florida Farms 

The first stop is Tater Farms, a family-owned and operated business that started harvesting potatoes and cabbage but then transitioned into turfgrass. Learn how sod has become their main crop over the years and how they're now growing several different varieties of turfgrass. The next stop is Blue Sky Farms a 4th generation potato farm. Located in the heart of Florida’s potato country. Learn why their conservation efforts were recognized by the Florida Agricultural Commissioner awarding them the 2019 Environmental Stewardship Award.

Tour # 9 - Berry Farms 

The first stop is Eat Your Yard JAX, a non-profit edible plant nursery and education center. See a variety of fruit and berry bushes and learn about their cropping strategies, companion planting ideas, pollinator planting ideas and more. The next stop is Blu by U Blueberry Farm a pick your own blueberry farm. Blueberry season starts in May but don’t let that stop you from attending this tour. There are a lot of other things to enjoy on the farm as well as walking through the petting zoo, playing in the sand box, eating at the picnic area, fishing in the pond and shopping at the country store.

Tour # 10 - JAXPORT and Naval Museum 

Must have valid U.S. drivers lisence or ID present. Children must provide birth certificate if they do not have an ID.

The first stop is the Jacksonville Naval Museum which is a unique museum-ship on the ex-USS Orleck. The Orleck is a gearing class destroyer with 18 battle stars and is one of the most distinguished ships of all, especially since the end of World War II. The next stop is JAXPORT also known as Jacksonville Port Authority. This will be a window tour through Florida’s largest container port and one of the nation’s largest vehicle-handling ports.

Tour # 11 - University of Florida - Meat Science

Take a step into the life of a UF Gator. This tour includes the University of Florida Meat Science and Beef Teaching units. After spending time in the units, visitors will be transitioned to the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium also known as “The Swamp”. The stadium is a state-of-the-art facility and ranks as the largest stadium in the state of Florida.

Tour # 12 - University of Florida - Entomology and Nematology

Take a step into the life of a UF Gator. This tour includes the University of Florida Entomology and Nematology and Horticulture Sciences departments. After touring the two departments, visitors will be transitioned to the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium also known as “The Swamp”. The stadium is a state-of-the-art facility and ranks as the largest stadium in the state of Florida.

Tour # 13 - Drink in JAX (21+ Attendees Only!)

The first stop is the Veteran's United Craft Brewery. Learn and taste how they started their operation with a 20-barrel (BBL) brewhouse and several 40 BBL cylindro-conical fermenters. The next stop is Manifest Distilling where they use American-made distillation equipment and grains sourced from a network of co-ops throughout the North America. Learn and taste what American craftsmanship has to offer.

Tour # 14 - Dolphin Adventure 

Experience a guided tour through the world’s first oceanarium at the Marineland Dolphin Adventure. Over the past 80 years, Marineland has appeared in the spotlight as the site of Hollywood films, made significant contributions to marine science and conservation, and delighted countless guests with the enchantment of dolphin encounters. You’ll learn from an expert and visit different animal exhibits.
Cost: $12

Tour # 15 - Give back with North Florida School of Special Education

This is your chance to serve the community with Berry Good Farms which was built and started by North Florida School of Special Education. Berry Good Farms’ vision is to provide sustainable food in an ecological manner through the training of their transition students and the compensated employment of their post-graduates, who continue to strive for independence and productivity in the community. 

You will rotate through three volunteer opportunities throughout the school, which include the farm, barn and pet bakery. In the pet bakery, you will help create dog treats that contain peanuts. If you have a peanut allergy, please let us know. 

Prepare to wear closed toe shoes and bring a baseball cap for when you’re working in the pet bakery.
