Our Weekend Plans

No need to rent a car or take a taxi.
We have researched the transportation options at the airport (see transportation tab) and determined that the best option was to reserve a private bus for some of our transportation needs.

Below is a recap of what we have planned for the weekend.  The details for the activities is below the RECAP.  There are links to help jump to specific agenda items. At the Welcome Gathering on Thursday evening, any updates to our weekend plans will be provided.

 FLIGHT 93 MEMORIAL

Private Tour by Brooke Neel
Please view the short video (see link below), created by the National Park Service, as an orientation to the Memorial before your arrival.  The video relates the Flight 93/September 11 story and prepares visitors for what they will see, do, and experience when visiting the Flight 93 National Memorial.  *Please note, the orientation DVD was completed in 2012 and does not include the Visitor Center.  A new orientation video is in production.  Visiting the Memorial Video

A cell phone tour was initiated May 2012. Discover the story of Flight 93 and explore the memorial through the convenience and versatility of your cell phone/smart phone. Visitors can either dial the audio tour directly or scan QR codes to connect to the memorial's mobile website. Explore the cell phone tour online Click here or call (814) 619-2065. The story of Flight 93 includes stops 201-206. A design tour is available by entering stops 301-307.

Visitor Center Complex
Located on the ridge above the Memorial Plaza at the crash site, the Visitor Center Complex includes the Visitor Center with exhibit area, Learning Center, a parking area, Allée and Western Overlook trailheads, and the Flight Path Walkway and Overlook.

Memorial Plaza
The Memorial Plaza is the quarter-mile northern-boundry to the crash site, which is the final resting place of the passengers and crew. A visit to the plaza culminates at the Wall of Names, which features forty white polished marble stones bearing the names of the passengers and crew members. This is a self-guided experience. Interpretive panels provide an overview of the story and a cell phone/mobile tour provides for more in-depth exploration.

Memorial Groves, Allée, and Wetlands Bridge
The 40 Memorial Groves, one for each of the passengers and crew, radiate along the Ring Road and Allée from the Visitor Center Complex to the Wetlands Bridge. The Allée, a formal walking path, follows the edge of the grove and connects the Visitor Center Complex and the Memorial Plaza, crossing the wetlands via the Wetlands Bridge.

BELLATERRA VINEYARDS

BellaTerra Vineyards was founded in 2015 by Jay and Joanna Bell. The original vision was to create a space for outdoor weddings and events, under the leadership of Jacque Bell, and supply those events with homemade wine. With Joanna’s background in advertising/graphic design, Jay’s background in horticulture and business, and Jacque’s expertise in coordinating events, BellaTerra Vineyards was born.

In 2020, BellaTerra Vineyards acquired Briar Valley Vineyard & Winery located in Bedford, PA. The 10 acre vineyard produces the highest quality vinifera grapes to make truly exceptional Pennsylvania white and red wines.  The tasting room is located in downtown Bedford. Stop by to try some wines made from the vines in Bedford and also to sample your Bella Terra favorites from Hunker.  They welcomed new employees to the team including winemaker Troy Beeler and Tasting Room Manager Anna Guevara, who is arranging our complimentary tasting event.  Consider supporting the small business through a purchase of something you enjoyed.

JEAN BONNET TAVERN
Welcome to a yesteryear experience of old tavern charm

Jean Bonnet Tavern invites you to share in the long tradition of hospitality, good food and drink, at this 1760's historic landmark. The flavor of the Jean Bonnet Tavern is traditionally inspired, yet eclectic. Delicious foods are carefully selected and expertly prepared for a pleasant dining experience.

The Cabin Shoppe sits beside the Tavern Restaurant entrance in a pleasant garden alcove. On the porch are hickory rocking chairs and a variety of unique vases, wreaths and charming floral accents. Inside shoppers find attractive displays of antique and colonial items as well as custom designed jewelry and giftware. We offer hand-made soaps and lotions, scented soy candles, unique stationery, clothing and local mementos as well as a wide assortment of Pennsylvania and Bedford County culinary and history books. Pewter mugs, platters, pitchers, beautiful ceramics, cookware, and so much more make our Cabin Shoppe a browser’s paradise.  The Shoppe is housed in an authentic log cabin, originally built in the late 1700’s in Fayette County. It was carefully relocated to the Jean Bonnet property and re-opened to the public as our Cabin Shoppe in January 2006.
