2013 TAPPI Introduction To Wet End Chemistry Course
 
 
Martin A. Hubbe, Ph.D. is a TAPPI Fellow and currently serves as Professor in the Department of Forest Biomaterials at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C., USA. Hubbe graduated from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, with a B.A. degree in Chemistry. He earned his M.S. from the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, Wisconsin, and received his Ph.D. from Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. He began his post-college career with American Cyanamid Corp. as a research associate and continued his corporate work at International Paper Company as a research associate and later principal scientist.  Dr. Hubbe is a member of the American Chemical Society, TAPPI and is a frequent presenter. He wrote and published the TAPPI book Cost-Saving Strategies in Papermaking Chemistry with co-author Kasy King and wrote the introductory chapter of Jose Rodriguez’s TAPPI book Micro and Nano-particles in Papermaking. He has nearly 120 publications to his credit, including books and papers published in professional journals and courses at conferences. He holds five patents.
 

 


Larry Anker, Ph.D., is a recently awarded TAPPI Fellow and currently serves the role as Sizing and Wet Strength Applications Group Leader for Ashland Hercules Water Technologies He earned a B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics from Washington and Lee University and his Ph.D. in Chemistry at Penn State University.  His career began at International Paper’s Erie Research Center in the corporate papermaking process chemistry group.  Dr. Anker has held various positions in his 14 years at Ashland including polymer chemistry group leader, applications lab manager and field applications group leader.

 
 
 
 
 
 

Przem Pruszynski, Ph.D., is the Global Technical Specialist for Nalco, an Ecolab Company. He received his MSc in Analytical Chemistry and Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry from University of Poznan, Poland, where he then taught for 12 years.  In 1986, Dr. Pruszynski moved to Canada to continue research and teaching at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS and University of Toronto. He worked with Dow Chemical Research, Sarnia in 1990, and in 1992, he joined Nalco earning various research and technical positions. Dr. Pruszynski has authored and co-authored nearly 100 papers and conference contributions and holds several patents. In 2008, he received the Jasper Mordon Memorial Prize for contribution to Science and Technology of Papermaking. Over last few years, Dr. Pruszynski taught several PAPTAC and TAPPI professional courses.  Areas of his expertise include water chemistry, wet-end chemistry, retention and drainage, pitch and stickies control, papermaking chemistry, mechanical pulping and bleaching, papermaking, stability of papermaking operations and paper properties.
