How does having my staff earn a Certificate in Association Management benefit me, the CEO of my organization?

All participants will gain a broad understanding of the unique nature of associations, how they are organized, how the leadership and management functions work, the value of membership, key principles for working with volunteers, and how your role contributes to the overall success of the organization. Likewise, by participating in the group learning exercises, participants will understand the different ways those at other associations work on similar objectives and work to solve similar challenges.

Who is ASAE and what is the ASAE University?

Formerly the American Society of Association Executives, the ASAE The Center for Association Leadership is a professional membership association representing more than 21,000 association executives and vendor partners. ASAE's members manage leading trade associations, individual membership societies, and voluntary organizations across the U.S. and in 50 countries. Headquartered in Washington, DC, ASAE provides learning, knowledge and future-oriented research for the association and nonprofit profession, and provides resources, education, ideas and advocacy to enhance the power and performance of the association and nonprofit community.

ASAE University is a source of vetted, essential information, containing programs in the functional areas of association management, as well as leadership and governance.

Is this Certificate program required in order to earn my Certified Association Executive (CAE) credential?

No. If earning the CAE is your ultimate goal, earning the Certificate in Association Management would provide almost a third of the 100 CE hours required to sit for the CAE exam. In order to earn the CAE designation, an individual must have at least 3 to 5 years of work experience in association management, achieve 100 CE (Continuing Education) hours in a broad range of association topics, study a set curriculum, and pass a 4-hour written examination.

Each full module provides 5.5 CE hours (one full Saturday or two Tuesday/Thursday evening courses). The full "five-day" Certificate Program provides 27.5 CE hours. The CE hours earned may be credited toward the "100 hours of broad-based association management related professional development activities" eligibility requirement associated with ASAE's CAE (Certified Association Executive) exam.

When did the Certificate Program start?

ASAE delivered the program in 2011 for the first time. In 2012, independent licensees of the curriculum were engaged to deliver the coursework in multiple locations and at multiple times throughout the year.

View the 30-minute informational webinar, which details the program and its mission. The webinar is sponsored and recorded by BeaconLive and was conducted by current licensed course facilitators from around the U.S.

Why isn't ASAE delivering this program itself? Why are there independent licensees of an ASAE-developed curriculum?

ASAE offers the program in its Washington, DC, office each year in January and June. In addition, domestic and global organizations have partnered with ASAE University to offer the course content in multiple locations and at various times throughout the year. Facilitators have been trained by ASAE personnel and approved by ASAE University to offer the Certificate Program in Association Management.

Do I have to take an exam to earn my Certificate?

There is NO exam! All courses include an assessment of learning, and upon satisfactory completion of the five courses, participants will automatically receive the Certificate in Association Management awarded by ASAE University.
