President's Welcome
On behalf of the Australasian Military Medicine Association (AMMA) and the Repat Foundation Inc. we would like to invite you to attend the Joint AMMA and Repat Foundation Inc. Conference to be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre, Adelaide, South Australia from 1-3 November 2013.
This conference will be a combination of AMMA’s Annual Conference and the Repat Foundation’s South Australian Defence and Veteran Health Research Paper Day. The decision to collaborate on this conference was an easy one. Both organisations recognise that military and veterans’ health matters extend across the whole lifespan of the member, from the time they join the military, through periods of active operational or non-operational service including time within the reserve forces, post military service and ending in retirement and old age.
Both organisations actively showcase research in Veterans Health through the Research Paper Day and AMMA through its annual conference and Journal of Military and Veterans Health (JMVH). With this collaboration, wider participation with the opportunity for valuable networking will be gained for those with an interest in this and other areas and provide an insight into research which may not have been showcased before.
The theme for the conference is Innovations from the Battlefield recognising the history of some medical inventions which unfortunately have happened through warfare, but have provided the wider health community with new and exciting breakthroughs in medicine and veterans’ health. This of course continues and we are seeing new research being undertaken due to defence health issues.
With this in mind, we recognise that many in the health community could make a useful contribution to the success of the Conference and we call for those people to submit papers that incorporate but are not restricted to the theme, including veterans’ health, rehabilitation, trauma surgery, mental health, health surveillance, operational health, ethics and many other streams.
An exciting initiative for this year’s conference is the Battlefield Photo Gallery where a prize will be given to the most engaging photo. The Gallery will be displayed in the Convention Centre foyer and votes given by conference participants.
We do hope that you will be able to join us for an excellent and challenging event and to meet new and old colleagues to network and exchange ideas.
We look forward to seeing you in Adelaide in November.
.
