AMMA will be conducting Pre Conference workshops on Thursday 31 October 2013 prior to the AMMA/Repat Foundation Joint Conference.



Aviation Medicine Workshop

This provides an opportunity to update your skills in relation to best practice in Aerospace Medicine.

The workshop will examine recent advances in knowledge of aviation physiology and clinical medicine in order to upskill aeromedical examiners and specialists in aerospace medicine to ensure their practice remains current and relevant to their unique clinical domain.

The workshop will attract 13 CPD points from the Australasian College of Aerospace Medicine.

Requests to RACGP and ACRRM for the Workshop to be endorsed and provided with CPD and PDP points have been submitted.

All attendees with receive a Certificate of Attendance.

Elicia worked for 8 years as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist before studying medicine at Flinders University.  She joined the RAAF as a sponsored postgraduate medical student in her third year of medical school.  Since finishing medical school she has completed her GP fellowship and undertaken further studies in Aviation Medicine including the Diploma in Aviation Medicine through Kings College in London and the Postgraduate certificate in Aeromedical retrieval and transport through Otago University in New Zealand.  She is currently the Chief Instructor at AVMED.





 



Dr. Gordon G. Cable

MB BS(Hons)(Syd), PGDipAvMed(Otago), GDOHSM(Adel), FAsMA, FACAsM, FRAeS.

Gordon graduated Medicine with Honours at the University of Sydney in 1987, then started training for his private pilot’s licence almost immediately.  Working mostly in emergency medicine until 1996, he completed the Australian Certificate of Civil Aviation Medicine (Monash) in 1992, a Postgraduate Diploma of Aviation Medicine (Otago) in 1996 and a Graduate Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety Management (2008) at the University of Adelaide.  Gordon was President of the Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine (ASAM) from 2001 to 2007 and has been a committee member of ASAM since 1996.  He is a Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association, a member of the International Academy of Aviation and Space Medicine, a Fellow of the Australasian College of Aerospace Medicine and a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.

As Managing Director of Aerospace Medical Services Pty Ltd, he has provided aerospace medicine expertise to the RAAF Institute of Aviation Medicine (AVMED) in Adelaide from 1996 to 2007 as a Senior Aviation Medical Officer, instructor and researcher.  During his time with the RAAF he has developed a research interest in altitude physiology including hypobaric hypoxia and decompression illness, and has published widely in scientific journals.  His passion is for teaching, and he has trained many military aircrew and medical officers in aerospace medicine during his career.    More recently he has worked in civilian occupational medicine, assisted in the establishment of an Occupational and Aviation Medicine Practice at Adelaide Airport, and has consulted part time for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority’s Aviation Medicine Section in aeromedical certification.

Gordon returned to work with the RAAF in 2010 as Specialist Aviation Medical Officer – Air Force and is currently the course director for the ADF’s Aviation Medical Officer Course. He continues to consult in private practice as a Designated Aviation Medical Examiner for CASA and CAD (Hong Kong).  He is a Foundation Director of the newly established Australasian College of Aerospace Medicine, and holds the title of Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Discipline of Public Health, School of Population Health and Clinical Practice, at the University of Adelaide.

Dr Tony Delaney practises at Narrabeen Sports Medicine Centre, Sydney Academy of Sport. Physician, Olympic Athlete Provider Programme and NSW Institute of Sport. Major clinical interests: biomechanics, overuse and acute injuries of the spine, upper and lower limb. Human performance, physiology and medicine in the environments of heat, cold, high altitude and underwater.   Military background includes RMO 1 Commando Regiment, Director Health Services, Army Reserve –Eastern Region, Chair ADF Consultative Group, Musculoskeletal Sports Rehabilitation Medicine.

His qualifications include: Parachutist, Advanced/Airborne Roping, Rapelling Instructor, Mountain Warfare Instructor, Dive Supervising Officer (Commando), Advanced Underwater Medicine, Joint Health Planning.
