In Adelaide, Australia’s ’20-minute city’, delegates will find a destination that is pedestrian friendly. The city is also serviced by electric trams and solar powered buses, so when it comes to getting around, delegates ‘environmental footprints’ tend to be their own.
The Adelaide Convention Centre became the first in Australia to achieve ‘Earthcheck’ Silver certification, joining a select group across the globe. The Adelaide Convention Centre is well known for its ‘worm farm’, the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, which eliminates organic waste going to landfill thanks to its self composting process of food and waste. In addition, by encouraging clients and exhibitors to separate waste materials on-site in color-coded containers, the Adelaide Convention Centre aims to reuse and recycle at least 90% of exhibition waste.
The Adelaide Event and Exhibition Centre has also put in place proactive water and energy saving measures. Underground water storage is used to service 50% of the venue’s water requirements, whilst 10,000 sqm of solar panels (the largest such installation in the Southern Hemisphere) supply power to the exhibition facilities.
Delegates enjoying pre or post event touring or incentive experiences, can do so in the knowledge that a large proportion of Australia’s accredited eco-tourism operators are based in South Australia, with 20% of the state protected as conservation reserves.
