2021 Alaska Statewide Special Education Virtual Conference - Attendee

HOW TO ATTEND

The format of the 2021 conference will look a little different this year since we are using a virtual platform.  The conference will be two days of synchronous (live) presentations, and in place of vendor booths, there will be 1- hour vendor presentations on the first day of the main conference. We will also be offering asynchronous presentations that can be accessed within the Learning Management System (LMS).  For those of you interested in receiving credit from UAA, you will be required to attend all live sessions of the virtual conference and complete five (5) outside activities after the conference. Here is a quick guideline on how to attend the virtual conference.

  1. Make sure to register for the conference. The registration button can be accessed on the homepage.
  2. Be sure to take a look at the “Detailed Agenda” tab to view all the live presentations that will be offered.
  3. After you register, you will be sent a link shortly before the conference dates to register in the Learning Management System (LMS).
  4. On the day of the conference, you will go into Learning Management System (LMS) and click on the Zoom link that pertains to the presentation that you would like to attend. Note, we will all start with the Live Keynote session at 8:00 am, and from there live breakouts will begin in the afternoon. As you go from session to session, you'll be leaving one Zoom meeting, and clicking the link to enter another.
  5. If you have not used Zoom before, it would be a good idea to test your computer, phone, or tablet ahead of time. You can do this by going to: https://zoom.us/test

Helpful Tips for Using Zoom

  • Video Layout – You can view the conference in two ways, by gallery or active speaker view. To switch between the two, click “View” in the top-right corner and then select Speaker or Gallery
  • Chat box – Time will be set aside after presentations are over for questions. During the presentations, if you have questions, please type in the chat box and at the end of the presentation, our moderator will relay the questions to the presenter.
  • Please be on time – We ask that all attendees join your Zoom sessions a little early or be on time to eliminate any distractions.
  • Low Bandwidth – if you have low bandwidth, try turning off your video. You can also join the meeting by dialing in on your phone instead of connecting to internet audio.
