Course Objectives
The goal of this education is to ensure that the providers understand lifestyle medicine (LSM) interventions and how the use of these interventions are applicable to our standard of care at KP. Providers will learn about our current in-place system along with individual resources that can be applied now in practice.
They will then be better able to:
- Recognize the concepts of LSM and the evidence behind it, how it can be applied within individual practice and within the organization.
- Apply evidence based science and theory behind behavior change.
- Recognize the challenges of LSM practice and formulate solutions to successfully integrate LSM into practice.
- Identify psychosocial factors that impact overall health and utilize the evidence provided by the ACE survey to formulate care strategies.
- Recognize and apply the concepts of Motivational Interviewing and practice empathy through listening.
- Determine how LSM strategies can be applied in the family unit, pediatric group setting and how strategies from the literature surrounding childhood obesity can be effectively incorporated in practice.
- Review the current state of breast cancer survivorship programs and identify successful strategies for including LSM principles.
- Explore the evidence behind plant-based nutrition and identify strategies to incorporate into practice.
- Describe the concept of culinary medicine, the elements of preparing a healthy meal and formulate strategies for integrating culinary medicine into practice.
- Evaluate the role of exercise as treatment for chronic illness and develop strategies for integrating exercise into their practice of LSM.
