Cost: $10 (Includes Materials, Continental Breakfast & Refreshments)

 

Registration Deadline: February 29th - Walk-ins will be accepted but the availability of workshops may be limited.  In case of inclement weather, call the District Office (717-569-9673) for news of cancellation (snow date: March 21, 2020).  Indicate workshops desired.  Please note and detail any physical needs or disabling conditions. Payment must accompany registration. If the registration fee is an issue, please still register by calling the District office. Scholarships are available upon request.  No refunds will be available. Substitutes will be allowed.

Workshops - Session One (9:00 am)

 

 

1 - Conflict Leadership, Part 1 - Creating a Culture of Positive Conflict

Presenter: Rev. David Woolverton, Elizabethtown: St. Paul’s UMC

Most of us recognize that conflict is a part of life--and church. When it arises, we try to move quickly towards resolution so that we can get back to the business of peaceful ministry. But what if conflict was actually essential for the spiritual formation of the congregation? Pastor David Woolverton presents principles from his new book on how to create a culture for positive conflict in your church.

 

 

2 - PTSD and Moral Injury

Presenter: Mr. Dean Luther, Chaplain VA Medical Center

Audience will learn the differences in PTSD and Moral Injury and how to provide support to veterans and community members that might be suffering from these issues.

 

 

3 - Leadership Gets Real: Leading as Your Authentic Self

Presenter: Rev. Dan Lebo, Annville UMC and Chaplain & Coordinator of Spiritual Life at LVC

This workshop will explore some of the traits of authentic leaders and how to incorporate them into our leadership roles in the church.

 

 

 

4 – Fostering an Intentional Older Adult Ministry

Presenter: Rev. Dave Kling, Churchtown & Terre Hill: St. Paul’s UMC

Learn the process to implement an Intentional Older Adult Ministry using tools such as Mission Insight, discernment and realistic self-evaluation. Your church is located where it is for a reason. Find your niche and fill the need.

 

 

5 - Christ Servant Minister, Certified Lay Speaker, Certified Lay Minister Training

Presenter: Mrs. Lynn McCord, Lititz UMC

Review the requirements for Christ Servant Minister, Certified Lay Speaker, and Certified Lay Minister. Learn how these certification programs can equip you to serve your local church, district, and conference.

 

 

6 - Connecting Children to Christ and the Church Family

7 - Prison Ministry - A Second Chance

Presenter: Rev. Robert A. Howard, Lebanon: Mountville UMC

We hold that the Word of God is a transformational power that can change men and women from the inside out. Our mission is to transform rather than rehabilitate, thus effecting a permanent change in the lives of those who have been sentenced to time in prison.

 

10 - Candidacy Process for Ministry in the EPAUMC
Presenter: Rev. Mike Remel, Mount Gretna UMC
An opportunity for participants to explore the process of certified, licensed, and ordained, ministry. This event also fulfills the Disciplinary requirement for certified candidacy.”

 

 

12 - Growth through Study

This class teaches you how to study the Bible instead of just reading the Bible. Helps you understand how important the Bible is in your ministry.

 

 

14 - Church Marketing: Google, Social Media, Email, and Websites

Presenter: Rev. Kevin Kresge, Hempfield UMC

Designed with the church marketer in mind, those who have a strong understanding of social media and some experience with digital advertising or websites will learn strategies for connecting with their communities in new ways.

 

18 – Your Congregation’s Adventure with Volunteers in Mission

Burnout is a serious problem in an overworked society and in the church. This workshop identifies causes and symptoms of burnout and offers guidance for developing a self-care plan.

29 - New Evangelism Models: Lessons Learned from Methodist Missions with Native Americans

Presenter: Ms. Sherry Wack, CSM, Co-Chair EPA CoNAM Committee

This study will trace the history and models of Methodist missions with Indigenous Peoples up until the 21st century. Participants will learn about modern relational evangelism models that emerged from the United Methodist Church’s engagement with Native Peoples.  The relational model is relevant to ministry with other cultures today. This course will also provide knowledge that can help us move on in our journey toward healing and wholeness with our Native American brothers and sisters on the reservations, in urban areas, and in the communities around us. The workshop will also equip Native American Representatives in local churches to plan a Native American Ministries Sunday service or a program at some time during the year to focus on Native American gifts and contributions to the church and community.

 

30 - BACKSTAGE: The Church

33 - General Conference Nuts and Bolts

Presenters: Rev. Andrea Brown and Mr. Samuel Longmire, Delegates to 2020 General Conference and Northeast Jurisdictional Conference

The nuts and bolts of our UM structure. Overview of how General Conference works, how delegates are elected. The major items of business (known at the time) will be presented. What does Jurisdictional Conference do? How to get up-to-date information. Annual Conference and the election of Equalizing Delegates.
