Overview

Education and skills is not immune from society and does not exist in a bubble. The equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) work providers do means working at a fast pace in the changing local, national and international/global business and social contexts, which staff and their learners may experience, need to recognise and understand, and respond to at any time.

This session is designed to help staff deal with the day to day realities and new social pressure points, for which there is no blueprint response. Rather than focus solely on yesterday’s equalities legislation, the session will go beyond this to engage with and support participants to recognise how they can develop their skills to respond to situations today and tomorrow.

Objectives

This webinar will:
  • update providers on new/changing equalities legislation and/or its enaction, e.g.
    • The Office for Tackling Injustices (OfTI) (July 2019)
    • Accessibility 2020 compliance requirements, which build on your existing obligations to disabled people under the Equality Act 2010
    • What the first provider reports, published in October 2019, under the new Education Inspection Framework (EIF) tell us
  • share thinking on current and future equalities challenges for businesses and what we need to know and do in order to re-shape and respond them
  • explore what this means for providers’ staff development, curricula, assessments, and inspection and how we can improve
