Guiyang, the city chosen by WUWM 

Guiyang, also known as “Zhu” and located in the hinterland of Qianzhong (an ancient county that covers the west of Hunan Province and the east of Guizhou Province), sits in the center of western China and serves as a gateway that connects the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. It covers an area of 8,043 km2 and governs six districts, one city and three counties, including a national high-tech industrial development zone, an economic and technological development zone, a free trade zone and an airport economic zone. Its resident population is 4.88 million with an urbanization rate of 75.4%. There are 49 ethnic groups in Guiyang, including 11 indigenous ethnic groups, accounting for 16% of the city’s population.

 Healthy Ecosystem 

 As one of the only approved group of national ecological demonstration city, Guiyang, lying on 26°N with an average altitude of 1,100 meters, is the best place for habitation and heart recovery. The average temperature of the year and summer is 15°C and 22.3°C, respectively, which are most beneficial for body function and regulation. Its relative humidity in summer ranges from 76% to 79% -- an internationally recognized ideal index; its forest coverage and air quality rate register 52% and 97.8% respectively; its negative oxygen ion concentration exceeds 10,000 ions/cm3; and the average wind speed in summer is lower than 3m/s, all of which contribute to its reputation as “Cool Guiyang - Best Summer Resort in China”.

Convenient Transport
As a significant high-speed railway hub in southwest China, Guiyang is centered in the asterisk-shape railway network that connects surrounding capitals and key cities in two hours’ ride through lines such as Guiyang-Guangzhou Railway, Shanghai-Kunming Railway, Chongqing-Guiyang Railway and Chengdu-Guiyang Railway. Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport, the central airport among 17 airports in Guizhou Province, is operating 162 flights from and to domestic and overseas destinations including 19 international flights with passenger throughput exceeding 20 million. With full coverage of highway in all the counties of Guiyang, a highway network with Guiyang in the center and connecting the whole province has been formed. In addition, all the towns and villages were built with roads, and the urban rail transit has been put into operation. Guiyang is now stepping up the construction of urban transit system of “five rings and 18 linear roads”.
 Abundant Resources 
More than 50 kinds of mineral resources such as aluminum, phosphorus and coal have been discovered, of which bauxite records a reserve of 531 million tons, accounting for one-fifth of China’s total reserves. As one of the three major phosphate bases in China, Guiyang has 1.548 billion tons of phosphate reserves, and the quality reserves account for 70% of the total in China. The coal reserves reach 2.014 billion tons in the city. As one of the four major production centers of medicine ingredients in China, Guiyang has 1,993 kinds of traditional Chinese medicine ingredients, hence the name of “natural medicine valley”. Meanwhile, it also has 193 lakes and 98 rivers with reaches over 10 kilometers. Guiyang registers an average annual rainfall of 1,414.6 millimeters and a water production scale of 655,000 cubic meters per square kilometer. 
Picturesque Sceneries
Guiyang boasts more than 6,500 tourism attractions over the whole city, including a 5A-level tourist attraction, 18 4A-level tourist attractions, 14 five-star hotels, over 30 four-star hotels, and 75 proven hot springs. Two 374-kilometer forest belts surround the city, and more than 1,000 parks are distributed throughout the whole area, forming its unique geography of “mountains and forests in and around the city”. In 2018, the city received 188 million tourists with a year-on-year increase of 26.7%, and achieved a total tourism revenue of 245.656 billion yuan with a year-on-year increase of 31.2%, including 540,000 inbound tourists with a year-on-year increase of 32%. 
Open and Inclusive 
Being the core area of Guizhou's inland open economic pilot zone, Guiyang has four national opening up platforms including a national high-tech industrial development zone, an economic and technological development zone, a free trade zone and an airport economic zone, all of which are led by the Zhongguancun Guiyang Science Park. These platforms are complemented by international events such as the Eco Forum Global Guiyang and the China International Big Data Industry Expo. The city has introduced 113 of the Top 500 enterprises at home and abroad, 82 foreign investment enterprises, 3,270 foreign trade enterprises and 876 foreign-invested enterprises. In 2018, the city's total import and export volume reached 3.494 billion US dollars, and the amount of foreign investment in actual use totaled 1.589 billion US dollars. 
Active in innovation 
Guiyang is a national agglomeration area and technology innovation pilot zone of the big data industry, proving with its reputation of “China’s Big Data Valley”. Guiyang has 55 key laboratories at or above provincial level, 99 engineering technology research centers, 115 corporate technology centers, 31 academician workstations, 19 technological corporate incubators and 41 maker spaces, with a total of 879,000 talents. In 2018, Guiyang registered 1,632 big data enterprises, creating business income of 100 billion yuan. The index on integration of big data with the real economy reached 45.3. The proportion of the added value of new economy represented by big data in GDP reached 21%, and R&D expenditures accounted for 1.7% in local GDP. The contribution rate of scientific and technological advancement to economic growth was 61%. 

 Strong development momentum 

 In 2018, Guiyang registered GDP of 379.845 billion yuan, with an increase of 9.9%, ranking 1st among provincial capitals for the sixth year straight. Its total retail sales of consumer goods was 129.947 billion yuan, up by 8%; the fixed assets investment grew by 15%; the total fiscal revenue amounted to 90.326 billion yuan, up by 15.4%, of which the general public budgetary revenue was 41.134 billion yuan, up by 8.9%; the balance of RMB deposits and loans in financial institutions recorded 1,135.744 billion yuan (up by 5%) and 1,241.275 billion yuan (up by 19.3%) respectively; the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents reached 35,115 yuan (up by 9.1%) and 15,648 yuan (up by 9.7%) respectively. Guiyang ranked 49th among 294 prefecture cities in China in terms of index on building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, and was titled “Influence China” City of the Year 2018. In the first quarter of 2019, Guiyang’s GDP recorded 76.419 billion, up by 9.7% year on year; the total retail sales of consumer goods reached 30.732 billion yuan, up by 3.3% year on year; the fixed assets investment grew by 12.5%; the total fiscal revenue amounted to 25.389 billion yuan, of which the general public budgetary revenue was 10.495 billion yuan; the balance of RMB deposits and loans in financial institutions recorded 1,185.978 billion yuan (up by 6.7%) and 1,318.474 billion yuan (up by 20.2%) respectively; the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents reached 11,084 yuan (up by 9.0%) and 4,126 yuan (up by 9.5%) respectively.
Great potential 
The Fifth Session of the Tenth CPC Guiyang Municipal Committee made a strategic arrangement - “Carry out High-Quality Opening Up and Promote High-Quality Economic Development”. In 2019, Guiyang, guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, will implement in depth the guiding principles of 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on the work of Guizhou, keep in mind the central government's expectations and forge ahead with gratitude. Guiyang will, centering on the vision of “Cultivate 100 Competitive Products and Industries”, stick to the bottom lines of economic development and ecological protection, take solid actions in the three critical battles against potential risks, poverty, and pollution, advance in depth the three major strategic actions-“big poverty alleviation, big data and big ecology”. Guiyang will stick to high standards and requirements, carry out high-level opening up and promote high-quality development. We will continue to expand urban scale, strengthen the real economy, improve the ecological environment and ensure the people's livelihood. Centering on the goal of building Guiyang into an influential international metropolis, medium and high-end consumer goods trading city and manufacturing city in western China, Guiyang will work hard and in earnest to ensure that its annual GDP grows by around 10%, the added value of industries above the designated scale by over 8%, the fixed assets investment by 13%, the total retail sales of consumer goods by 10%, the total volume of foreign trade by 15%, the general public budgetary revenue by 6%, and the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents by 9% and 9.5% respectively. The registered urban unemployment rate is expected stay within 4.2%, and the forest coverage to reach 53%, so as to create the pivotal underpinning for completing the building of a moderately prosperous society and celebrate with outstanding accomplishments the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. 

Yunjin Medicine Incubation Base, Guiyang City

As an exhibition & Experience center and industrial incubator base of the industrial park of China’s Medical Health Big Data Center, Zhihui Yunjin Incubation Base covers an area of 24 hectares with the total construction area of 450,000 square meters. It has been an important base for incubating the large health medicine industry, gathering bio-engineering, pharmaceutical research and development, medical testing, medical equipment, medical TMT, health and wellness, health experience and other big health industries together to build the “heart” and “transfusion” radiation areas of the great health medicine industry in Guizhou Province.   

Touristic Scenic Spots

Surrounded by mountains and forest, the city has pretty well environment. The climate is often mild and moist, neither extremely hot nor cold. All seasons are wonderful for sightseeing.

Guiyang is renowned for its colourful culture, represented by various ethnic groups and its special landform – Karst. Guiyang is home to more than 30 minority ethnic groups, consequently, it abounds with unique folk culture and traditions that give rise to colourful ethnic minority activities.

Qianling Park

Qianling Park, located in the northwest corner of Guiyang. The Park got its name from the Qianling Mountain. Clear springs and peculiar stones can be seen everywhere. Groups of clever monkeys and birds are living here.

Qingyan Ancient Town

Qingyan Ancient Town, founded in 1378 during the Ming Dynasty, is located in the southern suburb of Guiyang. As Guizhou Province’s historical and cultural ancient town, Qinyan Ancient Town retains a lot of its original layout, as well as ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties.
