Normalizing Black Wealth
and Black Unicorns
Tuesday, September 22, 2020 || 2:00pm–3:00pm ET / 11:00am–12:00pm PT
In partnership with UBS, this fast-paced, expert-led program will explore opportunities and challenges around creating inclusive communities in the face of injustice and racism. The headlines are familiar and challenges seem intractable: venture capital invests less than 1% in Black founders. Black entrepreneurs regularly encounter racism and bias from investors. And the numbers are even more dire for Black women, despite being among the fastest-growing and most dynamic founders of our time. Solutions in the form of accelerators, fundraising workshops, coding academies offer some relief and progress. After the summer of Black Lives Matter, the world galvanized around a call for racial justice and systemic change. How can the world of venture step up to meet this moment?
Join SIS, UBS, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Mentor Spaces, Black founders, venture capitalists, and journalists for a strategy session on the new game plan and how to flip the narrative for Black Founders.
Featured Speakers:
- Mark Wilkins, Managing Director – UBS
- Baron Davis, Two-Time NBA All-Star, Investor & Founder – Baron Davis Enterprises
- Henry Hipps, Deputy Director – Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
- Chris Motley, Founder & CEO – Mentor Spaces
- Kori Hale, Chief Executive Officer – CultureBanx
- Monique Idlett-Mosley, Founder & Managing Partner – Reign Ventures

The goal is to convene a peer group of emerging leaders and innovators shaping social impact as we look toward 2021. The conversation will provide an informal (off-the-record) opportunity to discuss the challenges of funders during times of change, highlight best practices around specific programs and efforts, and explore how we can take action and partner together for impact.
