Course Description:

The use of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), first introduced to the European and U.S. in 1996 and 2001 (respectively) has afforded the dental community with opportunity to improve diagnosis of oral disease and restoration of dentition, particularly in the areas of Orthodontics/Orthognathic, surgical management of abnormalities and disease, Endodontic therapy, and dental implant placement, restoration and restorative planning. Concurrently, the use of CBCT may introduce challenges in diagnosis of diseases and abnormalities, particularly in areas not routinely familiar to the clinical dental community, such as the maxillofacial, sino-nasal and craniofacial complex.

The purpose of this case-based webinar is to introduce the Oral Pathologist's perspective in identifying radiographic patterns and their correlation with clinical behavior of common pathologic processes. Cases will highlight common findings, suggestions for reporting, and referral strategies.

 Learning Objectives: 

1. Upon course completion, participants will be able to recognize anatomic variations in two and three dimensional imaging of the maxillofacial complex

2. Upon course completion, participants will be able to recognize radiographic patterns associate with pathologic processes

3. Upon course completion, participants will be able to develop strategies for referral to higher echelons of care
