Delta and United Airlines are the official carriers of the SBL & AAR Annual Meetings. Avis is the preferred rental car supplier. For the benefit of our conference attendees, a discount is available and is valid a few days before and after the Annual Meeting ends, depending on carrier. AIRPORT TRANSFERS – SAN DIEGO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (SAN)
The closest airport is the San Diego International Airport (SAN).
Many companies provide taxicab service at San Diego International Airport. If you need a taxi, simply follow the signs leading to the Transportation Plazas. A Customer Service Representative will place you with the first available taxi, unless you specify a particular taxicab company.

Amtrak & COASTER
Travelers headed to and from San Diego International Airport can connect with Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner and the COASTER at Amtrak's Santa Fe Depot train station downtown by using Metropolitan Transit System Route 992, which operates between 5:00 a.m. and 11:30 p.m., every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends and holidays.
The COASTER operates 365 days a year, seven days a week, with trips throughout the day to Old Town and North San Diego County. Tickets may be purchased at ticket vending machines on the Santa Fe Depot station platform, online at GoNCTD.com.

City Bus
City Bus Public transit is available to and from the Airport and downtown San Diego on the Metropolitan Transit System's Route 992, which stops at Terminals 1 and 2, and operates between 5:00 a.m. and 11:30 p.m., every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends and holidays.
This frequent bus service connects with Trolley, COASTER and Amtrak stations and is wheelchair accessible.

Trolley Service
MTS' San Diego Trolley is San Diego's light rail transit network. Its three lines serve many popular areas and attractions, such as Downtown, the Convention Center, SDSU, Old Town, and the Mexican border.
There are two ways to reach the Trolley from Terminals 1 and 2:
City Bus
All three Trolley lines can be reached by taking City Bus Route 992 to the Broadway and Kettner Blvd bus stop in downtown. Once off the bus, the UC San Diego Blue Lines can be accessed from the America Plaza Station on the corner of Broadway and Kettner Blvd and the Orange Line can be accessed from the Courthouse Station. The Sycuan Green Line can be accessed from the Santa Fe Depot Station on Kettner Blvd, one block north of the bus stop.
TROLLEY → TERMINAL Shuttle Service
Passengers can also access the Sycuan Green Trolley Line by taking the Rental Car Shuttles at the transit islands at Terminals 1 and 2. When the driver is notified, the shuttle drops passengers off on the north end of the airport, just one block from the Middletown Station. Passengers proceed by crossing Pacific Highway and walking one block northeast on W. Palm Street to the station on the left.
For those passengers wishing to catch the Trolley → Terminal shuttle from the Midtown Station, they should proceed one block Southwest on W. Palm Street and cross Pacific Highway to airport property. A blue shuttle stop is located on Admiral Boland Way. Rental Car Shuttles stop there on regular intervals (typically less than 10 minutes apart). PARKING AND TRANSPORTATION AT THE SAN DIEGO CONVENTION CENTER
The Convention Center is located at 111 W Harbor Dr. Onsite parking is available for an average daily rate of $15-35/day, with other garages available nearby. See here for more information: https://visitsandiego.com/location .
For those who need transportation between the hotels, Convention Center and restaurants, it is recommended to utilize FRED. The Free Ride Everywhere Downtown San Diego, is a free, green (electric), convenient and ADA accessible transportation service. Download the app to request a ride and hop in the gas-free shuttle within minutes. Although, it is not expected, gratuity for drivers is recommended and acceptable.

It is necessary for those entering the United States to clear customs and immigration. Visitors from Canada and Mexico must present a passport in order to enter the United States. Visitors from the 38 countries that are part of the Visa Waiver Program must have an e-Passport (embedded with an electronic chip) in order to skip the visa process. Please be prepared. Non–U.S. citizens should inquire about possible visa requirements from their own country. Official letters of invitation to the Annual Meeting to support visa applications are available. Please indicate during registration in the “Letter of Invitation” portion if you would like to request a letter. . Please note that the SBL and AAR will fully refund registration fees with no penalty to AAR and SBL members in good standing whose visa applications are denied or who are otherwise restricted from entering the United States. For full refund, members must provide a copy of the visa rejection or other written proof of travel restriction.
