AFWERX is a product of the Air Force, directly envisioned by Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson. Her vision of AFWERX is to solve some of the toughest challenges the Air Force faces through innovation and collaboration amongst our nation's top subject matter experts. The world is changing quickly--new technologies, new threats and new opportunities. AFWERX taps into the power of creativity and empowers intentional innovation that unleashes emergent approaches for the warfighter through a community of intrapreneurs, industry, academia, and non-traditional contributors. AFWERX has the ability to bring together our nation's best and brightest to collaborate, innovate, fabricate and present accelerated results to the United States Air Force to better serve our #1 customer: the warfighter and operators in the Air Force. About the USAF New Helmet System Challenge Showcase
The U.S. Air Force has allocated up to $20 million to redesign and replace the Fixed Wing helmet used by pilots and aircrew. The challenge is a new initiative for USAF and uses the AFWERX team and process to find people with the ideas, components, materials and technologies to improve the Fixed Wing Aircrew Helmet. The helmet of tomorrow needs to be lightweight, comfortable, stable, improved noise protection, have better thermal management and the ability to tailor the helmet for different needs. Ultimately, the goal is to enhance aircrew performance, safety and satisfaction.
Teams invited to showcase at this event have the chance to participate in $500K+ of prototype and experimentation funding, a $20M+ government contract, or potential SBIR funding. The showcase also allows the opportunity for peer and customer collaboration with industry and government and official recognition of companies or ideas.
The exhibit showcase will feature 38 solutions that were selected following the open challenge (Sept 6 - Oct 7) and will take place at Enclave on November 14, followed by an evening mixer on the rooftop deck. The second day, November 15, is invitation-only to a select number of teams who will be meeting with the project management office at the AFWERX Vegas Innovation Hub. Teams will be notified the night before if they were selected. We also invite you to the AFWERX Vegas - Hosted Kick-off Social on November 13 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM following registration.

"The current helmet we have is functional, its just that we added a lot of additional equipment to it and made it a platform which it was not designed to be.
We need a complete system solution that caters for the equipment but is also stable".
