Riviera Maya and Ground Transportation
In order to ensure that your travel to Riviera Maya is a hassle free experience when passing through international borders, please have the following forms completed on your arrival:
- Customs Clearance Form (will be provided by airline staff)
- Passport (please see criteria below)
- Mexican Tourist Card (will be provided by airline staff or at the gate when you land)
At Customs, You will press a button on a light resembling a traffic signal. A green light means that your bags will pass through without inspection. A red light means that your bags will be inspected.
After clearing Customs, you will pass thru a short hallway leading outside. You will be approached throughout the hallway from merchants selling time shares, vacations or car services. DO NOT STOP at these locations. Please exit the building and look for staff holding a UNICO Educational Retreat sign, they will assist with your luggage and escort you to waiting transportation.
Note: If your luggage is lost, stay in the airport terminal near the baggage claim carousels. DO NOT pass through customs. Fill out a lost luggage report with your airline. You must receive a print out with a phone number and report/claim number. Once at the resort, the Spear One staff will assist you in calling to check on the status of your luggage.

Currency
The currency in Mexico is the Mexican Peso, but U.S. dollars are welcome in most places. At this time the current exchange rate is 17.90 Mexican Pesos to one U.S. dollar. Please note that the exchange rate fluctuates daily. Please visit www.xe.com for the most current rate. Most major credit cards are accepted in Mexico. It is a best practice to call your bank before leaving the country to advise of international travel dates on any card you plan to use to charge while out of the country. When making major purchases, it is always recommended to charge items to your credit card. The rate of exchange on your credit card will be more favorable than the rate available locally. This is due to the large volume of foreign exchange generated by credit card companies at the more favorable "inter-banking" rate of exchange. The better rate is then passed along to the customer.
