Panelist - Jan Ryan
As an entrepreneur, software tech executive, and investor, Jan Ryan has been focused on building expansion stage companies for 28 years, resulting in four successful acquisitions and one IPO. Jan has always been attracted to disruptive growth opportunities, with her long- standing mantra being: “Fall in love with making your customers’ lives better.” Jan is currently a Strategic Advisor and angel investor in some of Austin’s most innovative young companies. She serves as Partner at Capital Factory, mentor at global accelerator Tech Stars, and Board member of Austin Technology Council. Her strategic consulting practice, 3Hills Group, brings her alongside CEO’s and Boards of later stage companies to accelerate their growth. Jan is an active speaker at both industry events and women’s causes. Social Dynamx: Jan co-founded Social Dynamx in 2009 with a passion to transform customer care in the age of social technologies. As President, driven by customers’ changing expectations in how they want to interact with big brands. Social Dynamx brought to market the first social customer care platform designed for the needs of big enterprises, and quickly attracted several large customers such as DISH Network, Time Warner Cable, and HP. This led to an acquisition by industry leader Lithium in the Fall of 2012. Vignette: Jan originally moved to Austin in 1996 to be the founding SVP Sales for Vignette Corporation, one of the earliest Internet software companies, ultimately experiencing a successful IPO in 1999. Jan established Vignette's sales infrastructure and industry-recognized team, and was responsible for driving revenue through all channels worldwide, including direct sales, Inside Sales and a network of systems integrators. Sigma Dynamics: Subsequent to this, Jan was CEO of Sigma Dynamics, a San Mateo-based early provider of real-time predictive analytics and marketing platform. The company raised $8 million in venture capital, and was acquired by Oracle in 2006. This Real-time Decision (RTD) platform became the foundation for predictive decisions within Oracle’s Business Intelligence Suite, still in use today in Fortune 500 enterprises. A common theme throughout Jan’s career has been a parallel track of paying it forward for the next generation, as a champion of both women and children’s causes. When her last company was acquired in 2012, Jan's passion for women entrepreneurs led her to found Women@Austin, a community 100% focused on increasing success ratios of female-led business in Austin.
