Martin Lister recently joined Transamerica Life (Bermuda) Ltd. as General Counsel based in Hong Kong with responsibility for all legal and compliance functions across the company in Hong Kong, Singapore and Bermuda.

Prior to joining Transamerica, Martin worked in Hong Kong for over 30 years in private practice as a partner in several Hong Kong law firms heading their non-contentious insurance practices, with particular emphasis on regulation and compliance. Until Martin moved in-house, he was the only lawyer in Hong Kong in private practice acclaimed by Chambers (since 2013) as a star individual for non-contentious insurance.

Other highlights of Martin’s career include advising on and designing the first long term business portfolio transfer in Hong Kong, assisting with the establishment of the SFC, assisting with the establishment of many of the Bermuda-incorporated life companies operating in Hong Kong, registering most of the insurance-backed ORSO retirement schemes in Hong Kong, advising Government on its panel of specialists on the establishment of the MPF system and acting as legal consultant on several Government consultancies regarding various insurance initiatives. Martin is also chairman of the Insurance Law Committee of the Law Society of Hong Kong.
 
Alexander Moore

Alexander Moore joined Morgan Stanley in 2001. He is a Managing Director in the Asia Financial Institutions Group based in Hong Kong heading the coverage of Asia’s insurance and asset management sectors.

Alexander has 16 years of experience in banking, including 12 years in Asia.
Born in Hong Kong, Alexander speaks French and Mandarin and obtained a First-class BA in Mathematics from Oxford University.
 
Edwin Northover
International Counsel

Edwin Northover is an Asia-based international counsel in the firm’s Corporate Department. Mr. Northover has a broad cross-border public and private mergers and acquisitions practice, with a particular focus on mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures and distribution agreements in the insurance industry. Since moving to the Hong Kong office in 2012, he has worked on several of the most significant insurance M&A transactions in Asia. He also has extensive private equity experience, having worked on a number of strategic and co-investments. Mr. Northover joined Debevoise in 2007 and was based in the London office prior to his move to Asia. He is qualified in both England & Wales and Hong Kong.

During 2013, Mr. Northover spent six months on secondment to the Mergers & Acquisitions team of a multinational insurance company in Paris. In 2015, he spent a period in the Financial Institutions Group of our New York office.

Mr. Northover graduated in 2001 with a Double First Class Honours degree in Modern History from Merton College, University of Oxford. He went on to study at BPP Law School, London (2002-3).
 
Roger Steel
President - New Markets and Business Development, Asia

Roger was appointed President, New Markets and Business Development, Asia in April 2013, and is responsible for Sun Life Financial Asia’s regional business development, marketing, distribution, digital and protection products.

Roger has been with Sun Life since 2008 and has over 35 years of industry experience including 23 years in Asia where he has worked extensively across the region including in Senior Executive roles in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea. Before assuming his current role in the Sun Life Financial Asia Regional Office, Roger was Chief Executive Officer of Sun Life Hong Kong. Under his watch, Sun Life Hong Kong’s MPF business rose to one of the fastest growing MPF providers in the market, and the Independent Financial Adviser (“IFA”) channel grew rapidly.

He is an associate of the Australian Insurance Institute and holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from Macquarie University, Australia.
